Philadelphia’s music scene doesn’t get up early enough for a morning roundup. While the rest of the world is sipping on their lattes and reading about international affairs, we’re nursing our hangovers and trying to shake the ringing out of our ears. But that doesn’t mean we don’t like to (eventually) stay informed. Snooze Alarm presents Philly’s most important local-music-related news, whenever the scene finally gets around to making it (and the rest of us are ready to read it).
Woah 3D! “Tonight, Paradigm Gallery is bringing you one of Philadelphia’s first ever 3D art shows. Curated by local illustrator/street artist Yis Goodwin (aka NoseGo), it will feature work by JP Flexner, Alex Eckman-Lawn, Jason Chen, NOM NOW, Daniel Fishel, Thomas Buidmore and so much more. Also there will be a special live performance by Philly locals, and fresh off the David Letterman show, Jukebox the Ghost at 8 pm.” (Phrequency)
Arrah & The Ferns CD Release Party Tonight “Big congrats to rising Philly indie-popsters Arrah & the Ferns, who’ve just issued an excellent new album All The Bad In One Place on Purple Turtle Records (you can get it right here). The band—which started out in Muncie, Indiana and relocated here a couple of years ago—celebrates the release tonight at the North Star” (Make Major Moves)
Das Racist and PO PO get pixelated “All in one week, both POPO and Das Racist have released awesome 8-bit video game inspired music videos for their latest singles.” (Phrequency)
…and in national news:
Pavement Needs Another Guitarist For One Night…And That Guitarist Could Be YOU! “Some might argue that ‘getting the popular ’90s indie-rock band back together’ is kind of a gimmick, and if so, Pavement has added gimmick on top of gimmick with a contest in which the winner actually gets to play guitar with them on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon on September 23rd. Kind of like a one-night-only indie-rock fantasy camp. Basically, you have to video yourself playing a cover of a Pavement song, send it in by next Wednesday, September 8th, and then online voting commences on September 13th, with the winner announced on September 20th.” (Make Major Moves)
