Scranton born, Philly based outfit Petal are this week’s Key Studio Session band. Led by Kiley Lotz, the group released its debut LP Shame last October and brought some of those songs in for this live session. Check out “Sooner” below and download the full set here; Lotz and her band play The Menzingers’ annual holiday show in Scranton on the 19th, Underground Arts on the 20th with Bayside and Boot & Saddle next month.

Ben Hughes releases the final album in his year-long project, reflects on the process

It’s twelve months later and Ben Hughes has accomplished what he started out to do last January. With this month’s If We Could Only Let Go the New Jersey-based musician has released an entire album each month in 2015, sharing old solo recordings and never-released band material in a true DIY spirit. To give the project a proper wrap, we asked Ben to reflect on the process and his experience over email.

Ben Hughes has reached the end of his year-long 12 Albums project and he’s celebrating tonight at Milkboy. For the last eleven months the local musician, who now leads Night Windows, dug into his back catalog of solo and home recordings to dust off some songs never heard before. We’ve been following local indie-rock artist Ben Hughes this year as he releases an album a month. Life: Now is his most recent installment; it’s a collection of unreleased songs recorded with his old band A Little Affair. Now he is gearing up to bring his lo-fi sounds to Ortlieb’s. He will be playing alongside Texas Is The Reason’s Garret Klahn and Have Gun Will Travel.
