Introducting Black Dirty: Stream & download their new EP, see them at North Star Bar this summer

Local four-piece Black Dirty have been playing together for about a year, and they just released their first EP Dirty Water last week. They say they like to keep their music technically interesting but “accessible” as well, and you can tell by listening to their EP. It’s part twinkly emo, part well-crafted guitar melodies; the alt-rock band seems to draw influences from The Dismemberment Plan, as well as perhaps some Circa Survive. Black Dirty will be playing with Bulletproof Tiger at the North Star Bar on August 21st. Below, check out their four-song EP.

Download “Pass Away” by Pomegranates (playing MilkBoy on 11/15)

Cincinnati’s Pomegranates fall into that category of art-rock where you never know what’s coming around the next corner.  Their latest album, Heaven, covers the swirling kaleidoscope of psych rock on “Letters” and the ebb and flow of dream pop on “Surfing the Human Heart” and it’s that dexterity of genre-jumping that makes the Pomegranates stand out.  On “Pass Away” you get a sense of the band’s fun, dance-inspiring live personality; download the track below and check out Pomegranates in person when they stop by MilkBoy Philly on November 15th.  Tickets are $10 for the 21+ show with The Hounds Below and Black Dirty.  More information can be found here.
