Tonight’s Concert Picks: Brethren at World Cafe Live, Frog Holler at Johnny Brenda’s, Gov’t Mule at The Tower Theater and more

World Cafe Live welcomes aggressive indie folk outfit Brethren to its stage tonight. The Lancaster, PA natives released their latest single “There’s No Use” at the end of September. The track is just as pretty as it is melancholic but it works. Its harmonies and guitar melodies bring to mind the smooth sounds of the Beach Boys. Stream it below and get tickets here.

This week, Folkadelphia presented a special Philly-centric session with Rosu Lup.  The chamber folk group recorded a Kickstarter-funded EP called Currents earlier this year, complete with orchestral arrangements, at Miner Street Studio.  A small orchestra joined Rosu Lup for this Folkadelphia session; stream and download the recording below.

Monday’s My Morning Download featured a new song from Jeremy Messersmith.  The singer-songwriter was recently signed to Glassnote Records and will release his label debut in 2014.  “Tourniquet” is a new song from the Minneapolis native that you can stream and download below.

Tonight’s Concert Picks: DeVotchKa at The Trocadero, Django Django at Union Transfer, Norwegian Arms at PhilaMOCA, Brethren at The Grape Room

devotchkaDenver’s DeVotchKa bring their chamber orchestra project to The Trocadero tonight.  After recording a live album with the Colorado Symphony at Red Rocks Amphitheater, the Eastern European-influenced quartet hit the road with a chamber orchestra to bring the full and intricate layers of an orchestral performance to smaller stages.  The band is also testing out new material that will be recorded as a follow-up to 2011’s 100 Lovers.  Tickets and information for tonight’s all-ages show with Pearl and the Beard can be found here.  Below, watch DeVotchKa perform “All the Sand in All the Sea” live at Red Rocks with the Colorado Symphony.
