Cabbage mixes catchy riffs and candid reflection new EP Crab Bag

Pros of the Philly basement scene, Cabbage deliver the kind of delightful grunge-pop full of energetic hooks and introspective lyricism that makes local DIY bands so fun to listen to. The three-piece is back with their first EP, Crab Bag, after releasing a set of demos and a split with Oxblood last year. The leafy green-inspired band, while bred in the local scene, creates upbeat songs that call a variety of influences to mind — Cabbage may be at home in a West Philly basement (or a batting cage or whatever innovative venue this city cooks up next), but their chill and effortless sound could easily come from the laid-back West Coast or straight out of a 90s garage. It’s all part of the opening weekend festivities for the season at the park, the first-annual UNIVESTival. The show is free and gets rolling at 7 p.m. King Britt is coming up on the June 16 release of After…, the next installment of his Fhloston Paradigm project, which typically dabbles in the techno realm while using futuristic, sci-fi themes. Run the Jewels kick off two months of touring tonight at the Electric Factory, a show that comes just couple days before the highly anticipated release of RTJ3. Leading up to this week rappers / producers Killer Mike and El P shared album single “Talk To Me” as well as a comedic trailer clip that sees the duo visiting Portlandia for some promotional strategy brainstorming.
