Check out “Believe,” the new single from CANT (performing at Johnny Brenda’s Oct. 27th)

It seems Chris Taylor is trying to remain optimistic, at least in terms of his song and album names. “Believe” is the latest track to be released from the Grizzly Bear bassist/producer’s solo project CANT’s upcoming debut Dreams Come True. It’s almost amusing to compare it to Taylor’s work with Grizzly Bear; the new track is an ultra suave, synthy jam quite unlike anything found on GB’s most recent LP Veckatimest.

An initial single from Dreams Come True, “Answer,” was released last month; you can listen to that track here. The album is set to be released on September 13th via Taylor’s own label Terrible Records, and he’ll be stopping by Johnny Brenda’s on October 27th in support. Opening the 21+ show will be Luke Temple and Blood Orange; tickets cost $13 and are available here.

Listen to “Answer,” the new single by CANT (performing Oct. 27th at Johnny Brenda’s)

CANT, the solo project of Grizzly Bear bassist and producer Chris Taylor, has released a new single from his upcoming debut album Dreams Come True. “Answer,” along with the rest of the LP, was produced alongside George Lewis Jr., aka Twin Shadow. The track is more synth-filled than either of the artists’ main projects, and as the beats vacantly bop away, it’s definitely an even bigger departure for Taylor. That is not to say it doesn’t work as a single, however; the vocal hooks tempt repeat plays à la Twin Shadow’s “Castles In The Snow.”

Dreams Come True is set to be released on September 13th via Taylor’s own Terrible Records. Taylor will kick off a fall tour in support of the new album on October 1st, and will stop in Philly on October 27th at Johnny Brenda’s. Tickets to the 21+ show are $13 and are available here.

Grizzly Bear’s Chris Taylor announces solo album, will perform at Johnny Brenda’s on October 27

Grizzly Bear’s Chris Taylor has announced that he will release his debut full-length, Dreams Come True, on September 13th. This isn’t the first time we’ve heard solo material from the group’s bassist and producer, who released a single entitled “Ghosts” in 2009 under the moniker CANT. Twin Shadow’s George Lewis Jr. collaborated with Taylor on the self-produced album, their second project together as Taylor produced Lewis’ stellar debut album Forget in 2010. Dreams Come True will be released via Taylor’s label Terrible Records.

CANT will kick off a month-long tour in support of the new album on October 1st. He’ll be stopping in Philly on October 27th at Johnny Brenda’s. Tickets are not yet available, but we’ll keep you posted.

Grizzly Bear as a whole has also been busy recording a follow-up to 2009’s acclaimed Veckatimest. Last week, they posted on their Facebook page that they “just want to thank you all for all the support on here recently, we’ve been enjoying checking in during this recording process. working, recording, writing, working, recording, writing. Hope everyone’s summer is going well! : )” No word yet on when fans can expect new material. —Claire Fishkow
