Fun, Free and Awesome: NoLibs Fall Fest features Joie Kathos, RoseMary Fiki, Ill Fated Natives and more

Beyond the world of pumpkin spiced everything, October means The Fire‘s annual Northern Liberties Fall Festival, which is set to happen this Saturday from noon to 8:30. Yes, you’ll find pumpkin carving and food there, but it will also feature incredible music from Philly’s rock, punk and soul communities.

Among the talented performers playing the free concert is local rapper, MH the Verb who will be celebrating the release of his new record alongside Philly blues rockers Ill Fated Natives, the funky RoseMary Fiki, and DJ Sylo headlining the night. Continue reading →

It’s going to be a party at 69th Street tonight when EDM poster boy Porter Robinson will be at the Tower Theater performing his debut album Worlds, which was met with mostly positive reviews from critics. As Rolling Stone states, “Although it doesn’t sound quite like EDM, Worlds manages to retain the thrilling rush of emotions that the best raves inspire.” Robinson’s music may not sound like typical electronic dance music, but there’s something about it that gives you a jolt of positive energy. Singer / songwriter and guitarist Jessica Lea Mayfield brings her ethereal vocals and creeping, crunching guitar riffs to Johnny Brenda’s tonight in support of her recent album release Make My Head Sing…. Sometimes touching on psychedlic shoegazey rock, other times inserting her bluegrass roots (she was in a bluegrass band with her family as a young girl), Mayfield’s sound is unique and all her own. Get to know local hip hop/reggae band I&I (playing Sellersville Theater Saturday)

I&I is a progressive hip hop group from Sellersville, PA. The three-piece group combines Imani Williams’ rap vocals with Daniel Faga on horns and drums and bassist/guitarist Ryan Chud’s reggae grooves using looping and sampling to create a sound much fuller than the sum of its parts. I&I is opening for the legendary Jamaican reggae band The Wailers at the Sellersville Theater Saturday, July 28th. The show starts at 8PM and are on sale for $33 here.The band is also headlining a 21+ show at The Fire on August 4th with support from Jo(h)n Band, Chalk & the Beige Americans, and Mike Brenner (of Slo-Mo).
The show starts at 9PM and I&I will be taking the stage around midnight. Tickets are $8.
