Citizen Cope has announced a Summer tour with a solo acoustic show at World Cafe Live at The Queen in Wilmington on Thursday, August 1. Tickets go on sale tomorrow, Friday, May 3rd at Noon.

Indie chillwave artist Toro y Moi comes to Union Transfer tonight. Born Chaz Bundick, the South Carolina native just released his third studio album Anything in Return. Where his previous recordings were experimental collages of sonic textures and patterns, Anything in Return broadens Bundick’s palette to pair jazz and R&B structures alongside his staccato production style. XPN welcomes Citizen Cope to Musikfest Cafe tonight. The longtime listener favorite has been an integral part of the XPN landscape over the years, headlining the XPoNential Music Festival, performing at the annual Non-COMMvention and contributing tracks to Live at the World Cafe. XPN welcomes Citizen Cope to World Cafe Live at The Queen. Cope (off-stage name: Clarence Greenwood) released One Lovely Day last year. Though primarily focusing on an acoustic singer-songwriter style these days, the Memphis-born musician and producer blends his background in hip hop with the occasional electronic flourish to amp up his laid-back delivery. Local punk rock band Hound help get things started at Kung Fu Necktie tonight. Led by self-professed nacho eater, t-shirt hobbyist and JEFF the Brotherhood roadie Perry Shall, Hound are a bit of an enigma with just one demo EP up on their Bandcamp, but it’s more than enough to satisfy any headbanging urge you might have. The lack of online presence for Hound could be due to the fact that Shall is a busy man, creating artwork for the aforementioned Brotherhood as well as a number of record labels when he’s not rocking out with his other (beachy-er) punk trio Dry Feet. South African choral group Ladysmith Black Mambazo will perform at Musikfest Cafe tonight. Boasting a career of over forty years, Black Mambazo were introduced to the global community through Paul Simon’s mid-eighties album Graceland, which featured the all-male group’s harmonies. In 2011 Black Mambazo released Songs From A Zulu Farm, earning them both a Grammy Award nomination and a South African Music Awards nomination. Get ready for a throwback to the grunge era tonight with ’90s alt rockers Dinosaur Jr. as they perform at Union Transfer on their I Bet On Sky tour. The band, who is celebrating the 25th anniversary of their renowned 1987 album You’re Living All Over Me this year, reunited in 2005 after taking an eight-year break. XPN Welcomes singer/songwriter Citizen Cope to the Electric Factory tonight. Citizen Cope, who originally began performing as part of the hip-hop group Basehead, just released his fourth studio album One Lovely Day in July. Tickets for the 8:30 show are available here. Celebrate Halloween at the Howardween Block Party today. All proceeds for the event, which is happening on the 1400 block of North Howard Street, are being directed to support Team Fox, a grassroots sector of The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research. The block party will feature performances from eight different bands including Soldiers of Soul and The Really Cooks. There will also be food and beer vendors, costume contests, and pumpkin painting. The block party is scheduled to run from 1 pm through 8:30 pm; more details about the event can be found here.

Nashville rock trio Those Darlins are playing at Johnny Brenda’s tonight. The group recently collaborated with openers Heavy Cream on a 7″ split, Summer’s Dead, before preparing for production of their third studio album. Also on the bill is Philly brat punk duo Slutever. Refunds are available at point of purchase. Tickets remain for the Saturday, October 27th show. Citizen Cope has announced a North American tour that brings him to the Electric Factory on Thursday, October 26th and Friday, October 27th. Tickets go on sale next Saturday, May 19th at 10am. Cope will also be performing this Thursday for a special Free At Noon during the WXPN Non-Comm music conference with Joseph Arthur. The Thursday Free At Noon will be broadcast live. Next Wednesday, May 16th through Saturday, May 17th WXPN’s annual music conference, the Non-Commvention, rolls in to World Cafe Live and WXPN. This is the 12th year for the industry conference started by WXPN’s Dan Reed when he worked at WFPK in Louisville, Kentucky. Hundreds of music industry personnel will be in town from various radio stations across the country alongside industry publicists, labels representatives, digital media folks, managers, and listeners and members of WXPN. The lineup for this year’s Non-Comm includes dozens of bands who will be performing at World Cafe Live Wednesday through Friday night, and a listener appreciation Free At Noon on Saturday at Penn Park. WXPN will be broadcasting and webcasting the following sets live:

Every year at the XPoNential Music Festival we introduce you to some new musicians. This year, one of those artists is Gary Clark, Jr. from Austin, Texas. Clark can sing some sweet R&B but mostly he’s a blistering blues and rock artist at heart. Check out the two videos below that from a live performance he did at Bardot in Hollywood, California. Clark recently signed to Warner Brothers records and he peforms on Friday, July 22nd with the North Mississippi Allstars Duo, Joseph Arthur, Citizen Cope, The Smithereens, and locals Nicos Gun, Johnny Miles and The Waywards. Dar Williams, Citizen Cope and Gary Clark Jr. have been added to the lineup for the 2011 XPoNential Music Festival presented by Subaru.

“WXPN, the nationally-recognized leader in Triple A (Adult Album Alternative) music and a noncommercial radio service of the University of Pennsylvania, today announced that tickets for the XPoNential Music Festival presented by Subaru are now on sale to the general public. More than 30+ bands will play the weekend festival at Camden County’s Wiggins Park located on the Camden Waterfront, from Friday, July 22nd through Sunday, July 24th.

Early Bird prices for festival tickets will be available from May 16-July 15. Early Bird prices for a daily pass are $15 for WXPN Members and $25 for non-members. Early Bird prices for 3-Day Pass are $35 for WXPN Members and $50 for non-members. Early Bird tickets can be purchased online, by phone (215-222-1400). Starting May 23rd, tickets can also be purchased at select retailers in WXPN’s listening area including the Greater Philadelphia region, Southern N.J. and Central Pa. The full list of retailers can be found online.

Beginning July 15, WXPN Members will pay $20 for a daily pass and $45 for the 3-Day Pass; non-members will pay $30 for a daily pass and $65 for the 3-Day Pass. A children’s ticket (ages 2-12) is available for daily admission for $5. Regular-priced tickets can be purchased online using the print-at-home feature or at the gate.”

Clarence Greenwood AKA Citizen Cope returns to Philadelphia for two solo acoustic shows on Tuesday, June 21st and Wednesday, June 22nd at the TLA. Tickets are available today at Noon. This past January Cope sold out four solo acoustic shows at the Tin Angel and this time returns for a larger play in Philly. Below, a couple videos of songs he performed at Tin Angel including a cover of Neil Young’s “Out On The Weekend.”
