Tonight’s Concert Picks: Spelling Reform at Ortlieb’s, Ought at Johnny Brenda’s, Com Truise at First Unitarian Church

Local indie rockers Spelling Reform continue a month-long residency at Ortlieb’s tonight with help from Ashley Cubbler and Luke Pigott.  Stylizing each show as a tribute to a different band, tonight’s event will honor the songs of Wilco.  Spelling Reform sprung up earlier this year out of several other Philadelphia bands, including The Quelle Source and Monday Appreciation Society.  You can listen to their debut single “Together Apart” below.  More information for the free 21+ show can be found here.

Tonight, Sellersville Theater welcomes singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Grant Lee Phillips to its stage. Earning comparisons to Bruce Springsteen and Bob Dylan, the California native made a name for himself through lyrical storytelling and killer guitar skills. Memphis rapper Juicy J gets trippy with fans tonight at the TLA on his Never Sober tour. After releasing his Stay Trippy LP last summer, he was featured on Katy Perry’s urban-leaning smash hit “Dark Horse”. New York based chillwave artist Com Truise recently announced the release of Wave I EP, due out February 18th. Listen to the first single “Declination” below. Mixing retro and futuristic sounds, Com Truise creates music that is straight up funky. His tunes stand out among dubstep or trance as more thoughtful and laid-back; the perfect vibe for chill mood-setting, yet creative in a genre that desperately needs it.
