Natalie Prass to release new EP including covers of Anita Baker, Simon & Garfunkel, and Grimes

Natalie Prass, the Virginia Beach jazzy singer, just announced that she will be releasing her new EP, Side by Side, via StarTime International on November 20th. The five-track EP will feature live tracks of “My Baby Don’t Understand Me” and “Christy,” two originals that she released on her debut self-titled album in January. The other three tracks are live covers of Anita Baker’s “Caught Up in the Rapture”, Simon & Garfunkel’s “The Sound of Silence”, and Grimes’ “REALiTI.” Continue reading →

Listen to The Afghan Whigs’ Greg Dulli cover Sharon Van Etten and catch him live in Philly early next year

Ohio-bred guitarist and songwriter Greg Dulli has had a long and successful career in the alt-rock scene, from his days founding the now-reunited Afghan Whigs to his work with The Twilight Singers and a string of solo releases, Dulli has been around the block.

Now he will go around the world as a part of a career-encompassing tour of Europe and North America. Today Dulli announced the specific dates and teamed up with longtime singer-songwriter and icon Ani DiFranco to give fans a taste of what to expect come tour time, with a cover of Sharon Van Etten’s 2010 song, “A Crime.” Continue reading →

Two summers back, Middle Eastern-born singer and songwriter Tamar Dart, or Little Strike, settled in Philly. Last summer, she released Forever Always Leaving, her first EP laced with electronic dream pop beats which concluded with a cover of Supergrass’ “Alright.”

Now, as spring is kicking in and we’re about to embark on her third summer here with us, she’s released a music video for that cover, a visual/auditory collage with “footage from real as well as dream life.” Continue reading →

Strand of Oaks frontman Tim Showalter just released a powerful cover of The National’s “Pink Rabbits,” a song from the Brooklyn epic rock band’s 2013 album Trouble Will Find Me. The Oaks version is immediately original from the get-go, drawn out in layered synths and 80’s-style backbeats and centered around Showalter’s raw vocals. Noted by Stereogum for its powerful nature, Showalter alludes to the song’s personal relevance in his life. Pitchfork commended the Australian artist for her witty lyrics and a personality that gives her music a backbone, and she appeared in a great interview on NPR’s World Cafe as well.
