Woah 3D! “Tonight, Paradigm Gallery is bringing you one of Philadelphia’s first ever 3D art shows. Curated by local illustrator/street artist Yis Goodwin (aka NoseGo), it will feature work by JP Flexner, Alex Eckman-Lawn, Jason Chen, NOM NOW, Daniel Fishel, Thomas Buidmore and so much more. Also there will be a special live performance by Philly locals, and fresh off the David Letterman show, Jukebox the Ghost at 8 pm.” (Phrequency)
Arrah & The Ferns CD Release Party Tonight “Big congrats to rising Philly indie-popsters Arrah & the Ferns, who’ve just issued an excellent new album All The Bad In One Place on Purple Turtle Records (you can get it right here). The band—which started out in Muncie, Indiana and relocated here a couple of years ago—celebrates the release tonight at the North Star” (Make Major Moves)
Das Racist and PO PO get pixelated “All in one week, both POPO and Das Racist have released awesome 8-bit video game inspired music videos for their latest singles.” (Phrequency)
…and in national news:
Pavement Needs Another Guitarist For One Night…And That Guitarist Could Be YOU! “Some might argue that ‘getting the popular ’90s indie-rock band back together’ is kind of a gimmick, and if so, Pavement has added gimmick on top of gimmick with a contest in which the winner actually gets to play guitar with them on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon on September 23rd. Kind of like a one-night-only indie-rock fantasy camp. Basically, you have to video yourself playing a cover of a Pavement song, send it in by next Wednesday, September 8th, and then online voting commences on September 13th, with the winner announced on September 20th.” (Make Major Moves)

Jukebox The Ghost’s Tommy Siegel Loves Philly! He Does! “Yesterday we gave Jukebox the Ghost’s Tommy Siegel a little poke in the ribs for bailing on Philadelphia and moving to New York, along with one of the other guys in the band (one of ‘em still lives here in Philly). Tommy caught wind of it and offered this spirited defense, which we appreciate and applaud.” (Make Major Moves)
Philly Keeps The Faith – A Benefit For DJ Stereo Faith “DC/Philly party staple DJ Stereo Faith, who’s recovering nicely from his recent brain surgery, thank you, will be feted/benefitted at the above upcoming party. More info/Facebook invite here.” (Philebrity)
Phillyist 2.0 – Phillyist Phillyist returns to the scene after taking the summer off. From the site: “We’ve been looking forward to today since we went on vacation on July 9. We were so excited to get back, in fact, that we bought ourselves a new outfit. What do you think, readers? Do we look good in yellow?” (Phillyist)
Making Time with Optimo “Making Time welcomed JD Twitch and JG Wilkes to Voyeur last Friday. They come from Scotland and throw an insane party called OPTIMO.” (Phrequency)
Bob Schriner Bites Back “When you write about music in any small way you end up on the email lists of every publicist in the industry. I usually delete the irrelevant emails. Sometimes I reply with a little snark. And sometimes I respond with hateful rants that sound like they were scribed by a schizophrenic war vet. Like the email discussions below, about a blues festival.” (Philadelphia Weekly)
Das Racist/Diplo Mixtape Further Proof That The 2000s Are Very Very Over “Four Loko punchline Das Racist, who really should have quit while they were ahead, are releasing a mixtape with Diplo, and this is the fully cringe-inducing trailer. Seriously, Diplo, do you work with anyone who can complete a full sentence anymore?” (Philebrity)
TooManyGames in Wyomissing on September 19th “The Too Many Games convention is almost here, bringing with it some fun competitions, awesome musical guests, and an epic sale of sweet gaming swag. It’s the 10th convention in a row, and it hits Sunday, September 19th, at the Crowne Plaza Reading Hotel in Wyomissing, Pennsylvania…They’ve also got some outstanding musical guests lined up, including Geekadelphia favorites Animal Style and Chipocrite. Other guests include Ro-bear, X-Hunters, and JJ Demon.” (Geekadelphia)
