Deer Scout enters their blue period in the dreamlike “Sad Boy” video

Dena Miller’s local project, Deer Scout, released a video for their song “Sad Boy” — and like the rest of Deer Scout’s small but mighty catalogue, this tune completely captivates from the first honest lyric to the last.

Opening with a shot of Miller painting on electric blue lipstick, the song hazily jumps in with a floaty guitar and Miller’s amazingly clear, light vocals. Beginning with the line, “Mom and Dad, don’t worry / somebody will want me,” Miller’s saccharine voice mixes with the melancholy mood to create a bittersweet and earnest tone. Steadily infusing synth-y, electro pop elements, along with shifting visual backdrops of a neon arcade, the contrast between the lyrics and music is highlighted even further. Continue reading →
