Motown funk guitar legend Dennis Coffey playing World Cafe Live in Philly on June 7th

Motown guitar legend Dennis Coffey is playing World Cafe Live on Tuesday, June 7th at 8PM with the electro-soul group The Stepkids. You may not know Coffey by name, but you’re likely to know his work with the Funk Brothers, the Motown house band during the 70’s. That’s his guitar playing on songs by The Temptations including “Cloud Nine,” “Ball Of Confusion,” and “Psychedelic Shack.” That’s Coffey also on classics by “Band of Gold” by Freda Payne and “War” by Edwin Starr. In addition to his work as a session guitarist, Coffey’s solo career included the instrumental hit song “Scorpio” that’s been sampled by a number of rap and hip-hop musicians over the years. Coffey just released a new self-titled album on Strut Records. Below, download a song from the album and watch the video about the making of the album.
