Singer-songwriter and pianist Diane Birch recently released her sophomore album, Speak A Little Louder. There’s a significant musical evolution on Birch’s new album. On it she transitions from the rootsy sounds of her debut album, Bible Belt, to a more sophisticated, richer sound. She continues to weave her influences like Stevie Nicks, Karen Carpenter, and indirectly some of the Goth bands she grew up listening to into her music, however the new album finds her experimenting with her voice and new sounds. She collaborated with songwriters Eg White, who has worked with Adele, and Matt Hales (Aqualung). John Taylor of Duran Duran, Questlove of the Roots, and Homer Steinweiss, drummer for the Dap-Kings play on the album. There are touches of R&B, synth-pop, and the Carole King-Tapestry like songs that her debut album became well received for.
This week only, in exchange for your e-mail address you can download a four song sampler via NoiseTrade; three songs from her new release and a song from her 2009 debut, Bible Belt.
