Non-COMM Recap: Going bluegrass with Steve Martin, Edie Brickell and The Steep Canyon Rangers (photos, audio)


A mix of lively comedic banter and danceable traditional bluegrass, Steve Martin and Edie Brickell entertained the Non-COMM crowd with selections from their collaborative album Love Has Come For You. Backing them were The Steep Canyon Rangers, a North Carolina ensemble that Martin told the crowd he came across while on vacation. The album is being released on April 23rd on Rounder Records. Produced by the legendary musician and producer, Peter Asher, the album features guest performances from Esperanza Spalding, Waddy Wachtel, Sara Watkins and Sean Watkins (of Nickel Creek), and the Steep Canyon Rangers. Steve and Edie are playing the Kimmel Center, Verizon Hall on Thursday, June 27th. Go here for tickets.

Steve Martin and the Steep Canyon Rangers with Edie Brickell play Kimmel Center in June

Steve Martin and Edie Brickell have teamed up for an album called Love Has Come for You.  It drops April 23rd, but tickets to see them perform at the Kimmel Center’s Verizon Hall went on sale this morning.  The show isn’t until June 27th, but the highly anticipated collaboration promises to attract a crowd.  As if Steve Martin and Edie Brickell aren’t enough, several other big names make an appearance on the record including Esperanza Spalding, Nickel Creek members Sara and Sean Watkins, and producer Peter Asher.  Tickets and information for the show are available here.
