Stream “Orbital R.S.V.P.” from Air is Human (playing El Bar on 4/13)

426502_340383242728022_865042361_nIn the tradition of ambient prog-rock bands Mogwai and Explosions in the Sky, local instrumental outfit Air is Human work layered guitar, keyboard, bass and drum parts into deftly spun expanses of sound waves with a cohesion and fullness that belies their status as a duo.  Following the release of The Infinity Limit in August, Air is Human hit the ground running with shows at North Star Bar, World Cafe Live and PhilaMOCA’s Tuesday Tune-Out.  More information for their April 13th show at El Bar with Tuesday Tune-Out compatriots Edison can be found on the Facebook event page here.  Stream “Orbital R.S.V.P.” below.

Check out a spooky video from Trenton’s Dark Surfers and the Yawns (playing El Bar tonight)

Call them Central Jersey’s answer to The Cramps; Dark Surfers and the Yawns is a Trenton-based four-piece that craftily mixes up sixties-style beach guitar (not unlike Dick Dale) with echo-y production and a stylized preference for the macabre. They play El Bar tonight, and to get a peek at what you might be in for, check out their music video for “Planet Drunk” below. It goes from playful to eerie real quick:

More info on the show can be found at the Tumblr for promoters The Dream Oven. Also on the bill are Other Colors, a Baltimore group featuring former members of part-time Philly psych heads Junkers, and locals Weyes Blood and Rain Season, who rock a driving distortion-pedal psych sound. Listen to their demo track “Hyacinths” below:
