Calling all hackers: Come to Music Hack Day Philadelphia at the ExCITe Center May 18-19

Screen Shot 2013-04-30 at 9.18.02 PM Philly is getting it’s first official Music Hack Day organized by Drexel’s ExCITeCenter and The Echo Nest, one of the world’s leading technology and music intelligence companies. Music Hack Day starts Saturday, May 18th at 10AM and ends Sunday, May 19th at 5PM. Just what is Music Hack Day? Music Hack Day is an international 24-hour HACKATHON where programmers, designers and artists come together to conceptualize, build and demo the future of music. Software, hardware, mobile, web, instruments, art – anything goes as long as it’s music. For music and tech geeks, Music Hack Day is where your wildest music and tech dreams may come true. Explore The Science of Jazz with Marc Cary and Will Calhoun (presented by Drexel’s ExCITE Center) on April 23

It’s Jazz Appreciation Month and to celebrate, Drexel University’s Expressive and Creative Interaction Technologies (ExCITE) is Center is presenting an event called Science Of Jazz on Tuesday, April 23 at 7pm at the Mandell Theater.

Featuring the jazz keyboardist Marc Cary and his Focus Trio, along with Grammy-Award winning rock and jazz drummer Will Calhoun (Living Colour, Mick Jagger, Wayne Shorter), the event promises to uncover the science behind the music in a performance augmented with large-screen visuals and an interactive iPhone app illustrating the principles of frequency, harmony, and acoustics. The event, visuals, and app are being produced by the ExCITe Center and is one of dozens of jazz events being held throughout the city in April.
