Explosions In The Sky light up The Fillmore for a sold-out instrumental show

Explosions in the Sky were welcomed by a sold out crowd to The Fillmore Philadelphia on Friday night. It was the bands first show in the city in five years. They are currently on tour in support of their latest album The Wilderness, their first full length release since 2011. The Austin instrumental band captivated audiences with both new and old material. Check out photos from the show below.

Atmospheric post-rock band Explosions in the Sky are beginning to make the rounds in support of their seventh LP The Wilderness, released just last week on Temporary Residence. They stopped by The Late Show with Stephen Colbert last night to perform “Disintegration Anxiety.” It’s a deeply hushed song that bursts into a meteor shower of melodic, distorted guitar and a bed of background fuzz. Just Announced: Explosions in the Sky bring The Wilderness to The Fillmore

Having been in “hibernation” since 2011, the reemergence of Texas post-rock outfit Explosions in the Sky is a pretty exciting thing. The instrumental band announced a seventh studio LP called The Wilderness (out April 1st on Temporary Residence) and a worldwide tour that hits The Fillmore on May 20th. They also shared lead single “Disintegration Anxiety,” which you can listen to below; it’s an effervescent track that expands around clipped drums and a bright guitar riff.
