Recent Philly-via-Vegas transplant Shamir closes out a busy year of touring with a hometown show at the Church tonight, following the release of their new album Revelations last month. Shamir’s vibrant and introspective pop songs touch on everything from queer identity to being a millennial, all with a blunt and witty honesty. West Palm Beach natives Surfer Blood have been busy as of late, touring since this Spring in support of 2015’s 1000 Palms, which many likened to a return to their roots, after having been dismissed by mega label Warner Bros. The band decided to take a more spare, stripped approach and the result is likely to bring in fans new and old. Tonight’s Concert Picks: D’Angelo at The Keswick Theater, Flounder Warehouse at Bourbon and Branch, Stranger Cat at Boot and Saddle and more

Modern funk / soul great D’Angelo brings his critically-acclaimed Black Messiah album to the Keswick Theatre tonight. The Second Coming tour features D’Angelo’s band The Vanguard, a star-studded roster of music industry vets: bassist Pino Palladino (who’s played with The Who), guitarists Jesse Johnson and Isaiah Sharkey, drummer Chris “Daddy” Dave, keyboardist Cleo “Pookie” Sample and vocalists Kendra Foster (of George Clinton’s P-Funk), Charlie “Red” Middleton and Jermain Holmes.
