Aggressive Canadian punk band Fucked Up will be at Morgan’s Pier tonight. The Toronto-based band just released their fourth album, Glass Boys, and just wrapped a European tour. Don’t miss an all-new Indie Rock Hit Parade tonight at 10pm on XPN! We’ll welcome the Toronto-based punk band PUP to the studio for a live performance, and spotlight the new album from one of their Canadian hardcore peers, the mighty Fucked Up! There have been countless new tracks surfacing in the last week, and we’ll hear just about all of them! Here are a few things you’ll hear in the mix tonight:
Toronto punk favorites Fucked Up recently released a great video for their album Glass Boys, which dropped earlier this week. The band’s latest is a thought-provoking, reflective album, discussing the purpose and evolution of music. In an earlier interview with Pitchfork, the band discussed their feelings of unease as they slowly progress as musicians. In fact, several tracks on the new album, like “Paper the House” and “Echo Boomer” reveal more personal themes than the band’s previous work.
Fittingly, the album trailer (which you can watch below) has a host of the guest starts (DIIV, Sky Ferriera, and Parquet Courts among others) talk about their passion for music. It begins and ends with the legendary Penny Rimbaud (of the English punk band Crass) describing birdsong and his music. In between, Damian Abraham (lead singer of Fucked Up) describes why he pursued music.
I felt angry about the way the world worked, and I finally found a voice to that anger.
Similar quotes make the video thought-provoking and unlike Fucked Up’s previous albums.
Fucked Up will be playing a FREE show at Philly’s Morgan’s Pier. Get details here.
We are positively AMPED that R5 Productions just announced they are bringing Toronto art-punks Fucked Up to Morgan’s Pier for a free show on July 2nd. Amped because they are an unbelievable high-energy live band; amped because FREE; and amped because it gives us a reason to showcase a couple new selections from this incredible crew.
After the ambitious David Comes to Life in 2011 – which, essentially, was a punk opera that fused melodic arrangements and an emotional narrative with gripping hardcore – the band took a couple years to recuperate and return with Glass Boys, which will be out via Matador Records on June 3rd (details here). So far the band has shared two tracks from the album, “Paper the House” and “Led By Hand,” and while they seem to dial down the concept album-ness we heard on David, they keep pushing the boundaries of what punk can be. Listen to both below, and RSVP for the free show at Morgans Pier here.
