Art rockers Glitter are gearing up to release their sophomore LP Ancient Rome, out via Square of Opposition Records on January 26th. The album comes after a string of EPs and was recorded with Jeff Zeigler. While the band has created a distinct 80s post-punk / synth pop sonic vibe, they have also cultivated a distinct visual aesthetic through a collection of very artful videos, as you’ll see in the premiere of “Beyond the Mirror” below.

Art rock collective Glitter released a fresh new video yesterday for their single “JULIE ANDREWS” featuring paint, paper clips, old school rollerskating arenas and, yes, glitter itself. Utilizing distorted guitars, vintage synthesizers, and upbeat, snare-heavy percussion, Glitter’s early 90’s post-punk era influences are made very clear. The new music video directed by Jayme Guokas and Isaac Turner sews together footage of pulsing jellyfish, a vibrating glitter-infused woofer, and Icelandic landscapes to create a thematic, retro video collage. PREMIERE: Go indepth on hair care in the new music video for Glitter’s “Halo”

You might not think much of your daily hair care routine (or lack thereof) but Glitter does. In fact, it’s the theme of their latest video for “Halo”. Taken from their new EP Graffiti Ghosts, the track speaks of “turning around” and the Earth being “inverted upside down” with the former being played out very clearly in the clip since each individual has his/her back turned to the camera. There’s no mention of hair, but everyone is attending to their manes with either a brush, hairspray, gel, or all three. Perhaps, hair is the halo. In that case, what about the bald guy? Ponder that and grab tickets to the band’s show at The Fire on April 5th here.

Philly indie-poppers Glitter launch a series of new EPs with The Midnight Zoo

1004824_509778199102990_1889961879_nLocal new-wave indie-pop outfit Glitter have just released a 4-track EP, The Midnight Zoo, on their Bandcamp. The Jeff Zeigler-produced, slightly shoegazey EP is the first in of three planned for release over the next year. This one starts the series off by shuffling nicely back and forth between sugary summer pop on songs like “Love Potion” to the occasional bit of lo-fi punk, like on the opening few measures of title track “The Midnight Zoo.” The whole thing is definitely worth a listen, and is available to purchase on Bandcamp for a mere 4 dollars. Check it out below.

Local rockers Purling Hiss celebrate the release of Water On Mars at Johnny Brenda’s tonight.  The new LP is the trio’s major label debut (through Drag City) and presents the bristly lo-fi guitar rock of previous releases in a more polished, hi-fi resolution while retaining the amped up excess of feedback and noise.  The Key explored Water On Mars for a March edition of Unlocked, which you can check out here.  Mike Polizze’s band will be joined by his Birds of Maya bandmate Jason Killinger’s newish basement fuzz rock project Spacin’, as well as AXIS:SOVA.  Tickets and information the 21+ release show can be found here.  Below, watch Purling Hiss’ video for “Mercury Retrograde.”
