The west-coast trio impressed the Late Show audience (including Dave himself), with a rousing performance of their single, “Forever.” No full-length from the band is out yet, but rumor has it, their debut album is well on the way (hopefully out by the fall). Watch the performance below, and don’t miss them later on in June, when they’ll be peforming at the Firefly Music Festival in Dover, DE, on the 23rd. Tickets and information can be found here.

The night of WXPN’s live broadcast with Mumford & Sons at the Susquehanna Bank Center (SBC) on Sunday, February 17th, the backstage area and loading dock at the SBC was brimming with a crew on site to film the new video for “Whispers In The Dark.” You can watch the video below. It features Marcus Mumford riding his motorcycle up the ramp of the loading dock (scary!), some footage shot at the Aquarium and the Battleship New Jersey. It also features a guest appearance from Haim who opened the show that night.

XPN welcomes the return of Firefly Festival to The Woodlands of Dover International Speedway on June 21st-23rd.  The line-up is huge this year, with Red Hot Chili Peppers, Tom Petty and Foster the People headlining the multi-day festival and over sixty of the biggest established and rising acts in the country filling out the bill.  Firefly’s diverse bill includes Vampire Weekend, rapper Kendrick Lamar, Public Enemy, Philly’s Dr. Dog, The Walkmen and the Spinto Band, Ellie Goulding, The Avett Brothers, Passion Pit, Calvin Harris, Grizzly Bear, Toro Y Moi, ZZ Ward, Matt and Kim, Dispatch, and new favorites HAIM, Wild Belle and Foxygen. Check out our review, photos and set list from the Saturday night show here. Last night, the band performed another excellent, transcendent set. Both nights the band opened with “Babel,” and encored with a version of Bruce Springsteen’s “Atlantic City.” While most of the sets both nights shared the same songs, second night concert goers got “Brown Crown,” and “Awake My Soul,” while first night attendees got to hear “Holland Road,” and “For Those Below.” Both nights, Ben Howard and Haim open the show. Haim were pleasantly confident and fun and played a cover of “Oh Well,” a classic older Fleetwood Mac tune along with their new song “Falling,” and “Forever,” from the band’s debut EP. Recent Run For Cover Records additions Modern Baseball play The Fire tonight.  Their 2012 debut LP Sports is getting the reissue-treatment by the new label and will be released on March 12th.  The local band also contributed to a benefit 4-way split for Topshelf Records this week along with Philly friends The Hundred Acre Woods, Maryland’s Julia Brown and Old Gray, with proceeds go to global anti-violence charity V-Day.  Tickets and information for tonight’s 21= show with Cayetana, Marietta, Smoother and Cool Points can be found here.  Watch a stripped-down version of “The Weekend” from Sports below.

WXPN will be broadcasting the Sunday night show live. Both nights there are two opening acts; singer songwriter Ben Howard and HAIM, three sisters from Los Angeles. Make sure you get to the shows early enough to see both opening acts. HAIM include Este, Danielle, and Alana, and drummer Dash Hutton. The sisters grew up in a musical family, raised on the classic rock leanings of their parents, and started as a band in 2006. They released their Forever EP in October 2012, have a fantastic new single “Falling,” and recently captured the prestigious BBC Sound of 2013 award. It seems that the UK has fallen in serious love with the band, and we’re expecting them to make a big splash with Mumford fans here in the States. The sisters sing in an urgent Stevie Nicks kind of way and there’s a percussive element of funky-ness to their songs. Their harmonies are sharp and to the point; the songs are high on melody and the delightful rush of pop candy (the kind that’s good for you). Last March at SXSW in Austin, HAIM received excellent reviews from the music bloggers and critics who covered the festival. HAIM will be on the air with Eric Schuman on WXPN tomorrow, Saturday, at 3PM. Tune in to learn more about them.

One of the most buzzed about bands last week at SXSW was the band of sisters from Los Angeles called Haim. The trio – Danielle, Alana and Este Haim – made a lot of new friends and fans with their showcases at South By. With just a three song EP under their belts, the girls touch on elements of classic rock and perky new wave with outstanding melodies and harmonies.
