“Red Face Boy” b/w “Pillows” is the debut solo 7″ from Howard Ivans.  Half of indie pop duo The Rosebuds and contributor to midwestern soft-rock supergroup Gayngs, Ivans is the latest project for the Spacebomb label that rocketed Matthew E White to household name status last year.  Fans of The Rosebuds are well aware of R&B’s role in Ivans’ musical upbringing – the duo recently recorded and performed a song-for-song cover record of Sade’s Love Deluxe – and the new single works in that realm expertly and soulfully.  The tracks represent two facets of R&B, with “Red Face Boy” bounding in on the funky, roller boogie front and “Pillows” slowing things down and dimming the lights.  Listen to both songs below and see Howard Ivans at Johnny Brenda’s on December 6th with Matthew E White; tickets and information can be found here.
