Philly hip-hop producer/beatmaker Ill Clinton mixes experimental beats with gritty lyrical flows from local rappers and underground emcees from all over the country on his new LP The Illvolution. Things starts off smooth as North Carolina’s Mallz instructs: “Close your eyes, feel the vibe, and let my voice be your guide” towards the end of album opener “Cold Crush”. We head back to Philly with Crypt the Warchild and King Syze (both of underground group Army of the Pharoahs) on “End It” as the pair praise self-sufficency: “No crew, no love, no clique, no we…”. The rest of the record features rhymes from local emcees including: Firm Taqtics, Carl Kavorkian, Peet Caliber, and Andrew Milicia (on the retrospective “Back In The Day”). Check out the tracks below.

Get swept away by Ill Clinton’s new video for “Yggdrasil” (album out 8/6)

Ragnarok

Philly hip-hop producer and beatmaker Ill Clinton just released a short music video for his new tune “Yggdrasil.” The song will be featured on Ill Clinton’s new instrumental album Ragnarok which comes out on August 6th. It’ll be a limited edition physical release, with only 200 cassettes available. According to the producer himself, Ragnarok is a term in Nordic mythology referring to the “destruction of the existing world and the creation of a new one (among many other things).” Nevertheless, this downtempo track is relaxing, not violent, and its hypnotic video features some very cool time lapse effects – check it out below.

Listen to Ill Clinton’s New Track “Juniper”

Ill Clinton JuniperLocal beatmaker and hip-hop producer Ill Clinton has just come out with a new track, “Juniper,” in anticipation of a new mixtape he’s coming out with on August 6th entitled Ragnarok. The tape will be a limited edition release on I Had An Accident Records. Downtempo, very chill and relaxing, it’s no surprise that this track was inspired by “a small retreat” (according to the track’s Soundcloud page). Ill Clinton recently collaborated with another local producer, John E. Cab, as duo Us Natives to create the instrumental album Used Vinyl Review. Ragnarok promises to be something of the same vein – check out “Juniper” below.
