This month indie-alt-Americana icon Neko Case released her latest album, The Worse Things Get, The Harder I Fight, The Harder I Fight, The More I Love You. The story of the record is pretty well encapsulated in its title, but you can hear Case dig into the depression and heartache that gave birth to this new collection of songs in this recent interview with World Cafe’s David Dye. Listen to J. Cole’s album Born Sinner (mystery show in Philadelphia on June 21st)

As the release date for rapper J. Cole’s sophomore album, Born Sinner, fast approaches, the album made its way online and can be streamed in full.  It’s chock-full of guest rappers and singers, including Kendrick Lamar, Amber Coffman and Miguel.  In addition, J. Cole is embarking on his “Dollar And A Dream” tour.  All shows on this tour are just $1, the catch being tickets are only available at the door and the venues will not be announced until the day of the show via twitter.  I guess we’ll have to wait until June 21st to find out what venue J. Cole will pick for his Philly concert.  Below, you can check out a video for “Power Trip” off of the new album.

Listen: J.Cole and Kendrick Lamar’s “Forbidden Fruit”

KendJAlthough J.Cole’s sophomore album is set for mid-June release, a recent leak will give fans a pretty promising sneak peek of Born Sinner. Listen to “Forbidden Fruit,” a track which features Kendrick Lamar, the critically-acclaimed rapper from Compton who made a splash in 2012 with good kid, m.A.A.d city. Although his contribution is slight, it’s the perfect addition to the slower groove — which echoes none other than A Tribe Called Quest’s classic “Electric Relaxation” from Midnight Marauders.

Lamar will be performing at Budweiser’s Made in America Festival, the second annual mega-concert produced by Jay-Z. The concert will be held on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway on August 31st and September 1st.
