Every week has a weekend. And after all the yelling, accusing, and all-out Facebook warfare of last week, maybe a psychedelic dance band from Australia is exactly what the doctor ordered. It was for me, at least, and Friday afternoon at World Cafe Live, Jagwar Ma filled that prescription to a T. Continue reading →
Recent Free at Noon performer Lydia Loveless is back for show at Milkboy tonight. The Ohio alt-country/rock artist released her fifth studio record Real earlier this year, a collection of songs that further cements her place as a powerhouse songwriter and performer. Watch a video for “Longer” below and pick up tickets for tonight’s 21+ show here.
A very special Indie Rock Hit Parade is in store for you tonight at 11pm ET on WXPN: Listen after Land of the Lost with Robert Drake for the annual Halloween edition, known as the Indie Rock HAUNT Parade! Celebrate the spirit of the season with two hours of thrilling, chilling songs from some of your favorite indie bands. Classics from Mudhoney, Neko Case and Beat Happening stand alongside new tricks and treats from The Shins, The Wytches and Shilpa Ray! The Indie Rock Hit Parade is back tonight with things for you to enjoy and things for you to look forward to. Listen starting at 11pm ET on WXPN (and whaddya know, that’s right after What’s The Frequency??? with John Vettese! for a full two hour show that features the newly released second album from Australian rave-pop trio Jagwar Ma. Seeing how Jagwar Ma’s 2013 debut, Howlin’, was one of my favorite albums of that year (and continues to sound fresh), Every Now & Then is a much-welcome sequel. We’ll hear a few tracks from it on tonight’s IRHP Album Spotlight. Also in the mix tonight are new tracks from Nashville guitar army Diarrhea Planet and Cleveland’s premier bedroom pop project-turned-punk crew Cloud Nothings, who both recently recorded live sessions in our studio to be shared in the coming weeks! Be on the lookout, too, for new things from Foxygen, Mitski, Nicolas Jaar and more…
It’s Friday (again) and that means it’s time (again) for the Indie Rock Hit Parade on XPN (again)! On tonight’s full two-hour show (starting shortly after Making Time RADio with Dave P), we’ll get to so many new tracks that you won’t know what to do with yourself. Anchoring this week’s IRHP is a spotlight on Give A Glimpse Of What Yer Not, the newest album from Dinosaur Jr. The Amherst trio’s original lineup famously reformed a decade ago, and this new album is the fourth to come from this fruitful reunion. Also in the mix are new tracks from Memphis lo-fi punks Nots, Florida’s premier Ecuadorian-American electro wizard Helado Negro, Philly’s own noisemakers Purling Hiss and more! Preview out those new tunes below….
After an off week (to make time for that sweet, sweet XPNFest action), the Indie Rock Hit Parade is BACK! Listen at 11pm ET tonight, right after Land Of The Lost with Robert Drake, for a full two-hour return that’s bursting at the seams with brand new music. In the mix this for this week’s show are new tracks from Australia’s premier psych-dance troupe Jagwar Ma, teenage guitar poppers The Lemon Twigs, master of drama Bat For Lashes and much more. Check out those tracks and others below:
This just in: Australia rockers-with-dance-moves Jagwar Ma are playing Making Time on November 30th. Leave it to Making Time’s Dave P to bring to Philly some perfect dance floor provocateurs. If the hypnotic, swirling Madchester influenced grooves on Jagwar Ma’s debut album, Howlin, are any indication, there will be no parking on Voyeur nightclub’s dance floor. Jagwar Ma have got the psychedelic rock/dance floor vibe of Primal Scream, Stone Roses and Happy Mondays down to a science, with their own shiny twist on the sound. Watch their new video for “Come Save Me,” and listen to “The Throw” below.
PS – don’t forget to listen to Making Time RADio with Dave P on XPN this Friday night at 7PM.
