British electronic soul musician James Blake performed for a packed and enthusiastic crowd at The TLA on South Street last night. Blake’s second album, Overgrown, was released a month ago and he’s touring the states with his band in support of it. Check out scenes from last night’s show in the photo gallery above.

Electronic singer/songwriter James Blake stops by the Theatre of Living Arts tonight. In April, Blake released his sophmore album Overgrown. The new album brings back Blake’s beautiful voice and rhythmic electronics. Tickets and information for the all ages show can be found here. Singer/songwriter and producer Todd Rundgren plays the Trocodero tonight. Rundgren has helped produce songs for artists such as Meat Loaf and The Band, and this year, he celebrates his new album State an electronic collection which according to allmusic.com is his “20th proper solo album”. Frontman Geoff Rickly of New Jesery’s emo/hardcore/rock influenced Thursday will be coming to North Star Bar tonight. While primarily famed for Thursday, Rickly is also apart of the experimental/punk band United Nations, joined by members of other well known bands such as Converge, Glassjaw and Head Automatica. Rickly has a release available on bandcamp entitled Mixtape 1. Tickets and information for the 21+ show with John Nolan (of Taking Back Sunday) and Gabriel the Marine can be found here. In the third video we’ve seen from James Blake‘s latest LP Overgrown, the electronic singer-songwriter takes a sleepwalking journey into the woods under a star-filled sky surrounded by cloaked figures. The video for “Overgrown” was directed by Nabil, who has worked with Bon Iver and Frank Ocean and who is currently working with Daft Punk. Overgrown, Blake’s follow-up to his 2010 self-titled debut, came out this week and was met with overwhelmingly positive reviews, among them top marks from Pitchfork and Consequence of Sound. Ever wonder what it would be like if you could take a trip through the grooves of a record while it was spinning? What would you see? What would you hear? Illustrator and animator Ferry Gouw has done just that for you. What you hear, is a song by James Blake, “Voyeur,” a hypnotic deep groove and dub-divined new song from his forthcoming album, Overgrown, out on April 8th. What you see is some tripped-out animated digitalism – some serious Tron-like escapism in the video – not to mention a spectacular sounding song from Mr. Blake. Watch/listen below. New songs keep trickling out of James Blake‘s camp – earlier this morning a radio rip / dub version of “Voyeur” made the rounds and now we have “Digital Lion” (featuring Brian Eno) streaming on the London electronic singer-songwriter / producer’s Soundcloud. Both tracks, in addition the previously tipped “Retrograde,” will appear on Blake’s forthcoming Overgrown LP, expected out April 8th on Republic Records. UK producer / singer-songwriter James Blake made a handful of announcements last week regarding the release of his much-anticipated sophomore album Overgrown on April 8th. The news was accompanied by a radio clip of Blake premiering Overgrown lead single “Retrograde” on Zane Lowe’s BBC Radio 1 program. This week “Retrograde” got the visual treatment with the stunningly misty, otherworldly video below. The narrative is a bit mysterious but involves UFOs, beautifully frozen imagery and an isolated country home. Following up his 2011 self-titled debut, London electronic singer-songwriter James Blake took to Zane Lowe’s BBC Radio 1 show to premiere “Retrograde” this afternoon. The single will be included on Blake’s upcoming full-length Overgrown, set for release on April 8th through Republic Records. UK minimal electro pioneer James Blake just announced a new run of tour dates that brings him to Philadelphia on May 11 for a show at The Theater of Living Arts. Blake is touring the states and playing Coachella in support of his as-yet untitled sophomore LP, due out later this year. When Blake was in Philadelphia in 2011 following the release of his self titled debut, he recorded a session for World Cafe with David Dye. Listen to it here (via the WXPN media player).

British indie/electronica artist (and recent Bon Iver collaborator) James Blake has just posted what appears to be a new album announcement on Facebook, according to Consequence Of Sound. Beneath an image of a cloudy album cover reading “Enough Thunder,” Blake has written the date 10/10/11. Pitchfork has since confirmed that Blake will release an EP this October to be titled Enough Thunder. The EP will include a Joni Mitchell cover, “Fall Creek Choir Boys” (the track he worked on with Bon Iver’s Justin Vernon) along with four new songs. Listen to the eponymous title song below. James Blake plays The Troc with Chairlift October 8th; tickets to the all-ages show are $20.

Philadelphia’s DJ Bombe and Mr. Caribbean mash-up James Blake and Drake

Pitchfork just shouted out Philly artists Bombé and Mr. Caribbean for their most recent creation: a mash-up of James Blake and Drake music called James Drake. Bombé (who also goes by Kid Queazy) specializes in house, 2-step, garage, tropical, club, and future bass; Mr. Caribbean is involved in Philly R&B. Given Blake’s status as a top dubstepper and Drake’s penchant for emotional summer jams, it seems like perfect timing. Caribbean calls the mash-up “a soundtrack for sippin’ Robitussun & Alize in an abandoned Cathedral, covered in a velvet blanket with a sexy stranger on a dark night…” We’re taking his word for that. —Dave Simpson
