On July 26th, legendary Philly DJ Jerry Blavat, “The Geator With The Heater,” is publishing his autobiography called You Only Rock Once. The Boss With The Hot Sauce (one of the Geator’s “other” names) will be at the Free Library of Philadelphia (Central Library) in Center City, Philadelphia on Monday, August 1, 7:30PM and will be interviewed by Tom Moon, former music critic for The Philadelphia Inquirer and author of 1,000 Recordings to Hear Before You Die. The event is free and open to the public.

Here’s one album we wish we still had

Here’s one album we wish we still had in our collection: Jerry Blavat Presents Harvey Holiday. It was released in 1983 on Old Gold Records with songs by the Formations (“At The Top Of The Stairs”), “Breakin’ Down The Walls Of Heartache” by The Bandwagon, the Magnificent Men’s “Piece of Mind,” and “Girl I Need You” by The Artistics. Classic songs from two classic legendary Philly DJ’s, The Geator and Harvey Holiday.

Tonight: Rock with The Geator or Rock with Dave P of Making Time RADio

Yesterday we made some suggestions for your weekend entertainment options here. There’s a couple events happening tonight that we want to draw your attention to.

On one hand, you’ve got a show that will be a blast to the past to the “yon teens” (as coined by Jerry “The Geator” Blavat”) with the man and the legend himself. Jerry Blavat’s Sounds Spectacular Reunion is in Verizon Hall at the Kimmel Center featuring those fabulous sounds of yesteryear with Darlene Love, Kenny Vance and The Planotones, The Duprees, Freda Payne, and a special tribute to Tony Williams with The Platters. Showtime is 8PM. Ticket prices here

On the other side of town is Making Time with performances from the Parisian band La Femme and Brooklyn hipster chillwavers Small Black. All of your favorite MT Corp. DJ’s will be on hand including Dave P, Sammy Slice, Mike Z & Dave Pak, Adam Sparkles, the Broadzilla DJ’s, the Rock Tits crew and a special performance from Philly’s Far-Out Fangtooth. It’s all at Voyeur 1221 St. James St. Tickets to the 21+ event are $10.00

A blog dedicated to the wisdom of The Geator With The Heater, Jerry Blavat

Ever since our friends at Philebrity tipped us to The Blavat Blog—which offers the daily wit and wisdom of The Boss With The Big Hot Sauce, The Geator With The Heater, our Main Man Pots And Pans Jerry Blavat—we’ve been following it closely. It is written by the folks who work in the coffee shop where The Geator regularly stops in for his coffee.

Yesterday, the Blavat Blog had its best post yet, a clip of The Geator when he was on The Monkees TV show (which you can view below). The episode, entitled “Some Like It Luke Warm,” starred The Geator as the manager of a band contest that The Monkees enter.

Don’t miss The Geator’s Rock and Roll Rhythm & Blues Express every Saturday night at 6PM on XPN.
