Tonight’s Concert Picks: The Corin Tucker Band at Johnny Brenda’s, Joe Jackson at The Keswick, Florence and the Machine with The Weeknd at SBC, Market East at Kung Fu Necktie


Get your riot grrrl on for The Corin Tucker Band album release show at Johnny Brenda’s tonight!  Tucker was the vocalist/guitarist in the influential feminist punk band Sleater-Kinney alongside Carrie Brownstein in the nineties, but took a break from recording to start a family after the band’s split.  She has since returned to the studio and releases her solo band’s sophomore album Kill My Blues today.  Also billed are fishtown duo Trophy Wife.  Doors for the 21+ show are at 8:00pm.  Tickets and information can be found here.  Watch the video for “Riley” below, off of The Corin Tucker Band’s 2010 album 1,000 Years.

Tonight’s Concert Picks: Iron Maiden, Japandroids, Jeffrey Gaines, Umphrey’s McGee/G Love, and Vintage Kicks

Tonight, two legendary acts come together for one performance; Iron Maiden is playing with Alice Cooper at the Susquehanna Bank Center. Expect lots of head banging and moshing at this performance. You can purchase tickets here.

R5 Productions presents Japandroids, who recently released their sophomore album Celebration Rockplay at Johnny Brenda’s with rapper Cadence Weapon opening. The 21+ show begins at 9 PM, this show is SOLD OUT!

Jeffrey Gaines CD Release Party at the Tin Angel. Gaines will be celebrating his recent album Live in Europe, from his 2010 tour with Joe Jackson. Tickets to the 21+ show are $22, the show begins at 10 PM.

Umphrey’s McGee plays with G. Love for a special outdoors performance at the Electric Factory at 8 PM. You can purchase tickets to the all ages show here.

Vintage Kicks play Upstairs at World Cafe Live. We just did a Key Studio session with them that you can check out here. Show at 8 PM; tickets are $7 plus processing fees.

Joe Jackson just released a Duke Ellington tribute album called The Duke on Razor & Tie records. The star-studded tribute to Ellington includes contributions from Sharon Jones, violinist Regina Carter, bassist Christian McBride, guitarist Steve Vai, and drummer ?uestlove of The Roots. Jackson is touring in September and October with a stop at the Keswick Theatre on Tuesday, September 18th. Go here for tickets and more information. Just announced: Joe Jackson playing the Keswick Theatre in September (download a free MP3 from his new album)

Joe Jackson is releasing a Duke Ellington tribute album called The Duke, on June 26th on Razor & Tie records. The star-studded tribute to Ellington includes contributions from Iggy Pop, Sharon Jones, violinist Regina Carter, bassist Christian McBride, guitarist Steve Vai, and drummer Questlove of The Roots. A 13-city tour will take place in September with a stop at the Keswick Theatre on Tuesday, September 18th.
