John K. Samson & The Winter Wheat make a stop at World Cafe Live Downstairs for a gig with Worriers. His indie singer/songwriter chops house a little quirk, a little unorthodox folk, and bookish lyrics, setting the night up to be a night of discovery for anyone looking for something a little different. Listen to John K. Samson’s interview and performance on XPN2

Canadian singer-songwriter John K. Samson recently stopped by the XPN2 studios to play acoustic versions of songs from his new album, Provicial. Now you can stream the session whenever you like. Best known as the leader of The Weakerthans, John’s album Provincial was released earlier this year. The record contains new versions of songs from several recent EPs, and features plenty of the sharp, witty songwriting that has become Samson’s trademark. In the session, you’ll hear Samson and Provincial Band bassist Doug Friesen perform songs from Provincial in our World Cafe studio, and XPN2’s Eric Schuman talks with John about his evolution as a songwriter and his intricate creative process.
