Tonight’s Concert Picks: The A’s at Ardmore Music Hall, Winter Doldrums Music Festival at World Cafe Live, Jonathan Wilson at Underground Arts and more

The As_LP_inside_bandReunited Philly new wave-era rockers The A’s cross over county lines tonight to play a show tonight at Ardmore Music Hall. The five-piece force behind pop hits “A Woman’s Got The Power” and “After Last Night” staged a successful comeback last January at Underground Arts, where they reportedly played almost every single song in their catalog in a show they billed “Last Dance.” After a extremely positive fan response, The A’s decided to make the Last Dance a regular thing. Tickets and information can be found at the XPN Concert Calendar. Watch a video from the Underground Arts show below.

XPN Artist To Watch Jonathan Wilson is playing Underground Arts on Saturday, February 15th. The singer-songwriter, producer and multi-instrumentalist recently released a new album, Fanfare. Wilson’s new album is receiving well deserved glowing reviews for its meticulously crafted, produced and ambitiously cinematic songs. One hears echoes of classic rock – Traffic, Pink Floyd, CS&N (Crosby, Stills & Nash), and ELO. The songs are long and sweeping and showcase a level of excellence in artistry and craft missing from so much of today’s modern music and features contributions from David Crosby, Graham Nash, Jackson Browne, Mike Campbell and Benmont Tench (from Tom Petty and The Hearbreakers,), Father John Misty, Taylor Goldsmith (lead singer/guitarist of Dawes), Wilco’s Patrick Sansone and Roy Harper. Below, listen to a couple of Fanfare‘s stand out songs, “Cecil Taylor,” and the title song. Tickets to the show go on sale Friday, November 22nd here.
