Last night at Union Transfer, the Jose Gonzalez-fronted Junip brought its folk-infused, majestically arranged indie rock to Philly, on tour in support of its self-titled latest LP. Opening the show was Philadelphia songwriter and singer Birdie Busch and her band, who released the equally folky / vibey Birdie Busch and the Greatest Night earlier this year. Led by Swedish songwriter Jose Gonzales, the band Junip, is sharing the stage with Philadelphia singer Birdie Busch tonight at Union Transfer. Known for their soft, but invigorating sound, both musicians take their own spin on folk by mixing blues progressions with atmospheric, psychedelic breaths, soft rock riffs, and delicate lyrics. Junip is fronted by singer-songwriter Jose Gonzalez and includes Elias Araya on drums and Tobias Winterkorn on keyboards. The band plays Union Transfer on Sunday, June 16th. Singer-songwriter Jose Gonzalez and his band Junip has announced a new album coming out in the Spring on April 23rd. The excellent new song, “Line Of Fire,” reveals itself slowly and builds to a soaring two chord anthem, with pulsing synths and electronics, acoustic undertones and the warm vocals of Gonzalez.
