Seattle-based hazy rock act La Luz will be taking their soundscapes to Underground Arts. Coming to fruition in 2012, they have since released three records, which each one topping the last. Their latest effort, Weirdo Shrine,  teems with summertime surf melodies. Comprised of members Shana Cleaveland on guitar, Marian Li Pino on drums, Alice Sandahl on keyboard and Lena Simon on bass, La Luz does not fall short. Tonight’s Indie Rock Hit Parade comes at the tail end of your host’s birthday! That’s right, it’s my birthday and I would like nothing more than for you to join me at 11pm tonight for a full two-hour edition of the Hit Parade. I’ve always loved having a summer birthday, and we’ll get some major summer action tonight as we spotlight the new album from Seattle’s La Luz! The Ty Segall-produced Weirdo Shrine is a terrific late-summer release, and we’ll hear a few tracks from it on our Weekly Album Spotlight. Also in the mix are a ton of new tracks, plus (to my knowledge) the first ever REMIX to be featured on an Indie Rock Hit Parade! Check out a few of the new tunes:

The Indie Rock Hit Parade is BACK tonight at 11pm with an all new show (following last week’s time-traveling diversion). Tune in for a mix of hot-off-the-presses tracks and a few moldy old favorites thrown in for good measure. Each week on the Hit Parade we like to, among other things, spotlight a newly released album by playing a couple of tracks from it (like you might at your local record mongery). This week’s spotlight is on a band that’s been kind enough to join us for an IRHP Session in the past, Wilmington multimedia pranksters Teen Men. We’ll dig in to their self-titled debut in the second hour of tonight’s show. What else will you find on this week’s Indie Rock Hit Parade? You’ll just have to listen in to find out. Alternately, you could check out a few of the tracks below (but you should definitely should still listen tonight):

Seattle Surf rock / doo wop quartet La Luz headlines MilkBoy tonight. The band formed in 2012 with Shana Cleaveland on guitar (who’s also a part of the Curious Monkeys), Marian Li Pino on drums, Alice Sandahl on keyboard and Lena Simon on Bass. Two years ago, it released a spectacularly catchy album Dump Face. Last year, they followed it up with another more rock-oriented album, It’s Alive. Listen to the sultry pop ballad “Call me in the Day” below. Get more details about the show at the XPN Concert Calendar.
