Here Comes Your Man: New Pixies, Sam Evian & S U R V I V E on the Indie Rock Hit Parade!

Tonight’s the night, friends. Final Friday of September, time for Land of the Lost with Robert Drake and, immediately following that, the Indie Rock Hit Parade! The IRHP action starts at 11pm ET on WXPN, and there’s a glut of new releases to showcase. Perhaps the most perfect new record to play on this particular night is Head Carrier, the much-anticipated sixth album from Boston legends the Pixies. There’s been plenty of talk about the changes that the band has gone through since reuniting over a decade ago, but it’s hard to argue with the instantly recognizable (not to mention instantly likable) sounds on this new one. We’ll hear a few tracks on this week’s IRHP Album Spotlight. Also in the mix from this week’s laundry list of new albums will be tracks from the cosmic solo debut from Celestial Shore’s Sam Evian, the haunting synthesizers of Austin’s S U R V I V E (whose members provided the score to the hit series Stranger Things), and a revisit of tracks from La Sera‘s Spring 2016 release on a new EP. Preview some of that sruff below…

Tonight’s Indie Rock Hit Parade is a pretty special one, so make sure you’re tuned in at 11pm ET on WXPN (not too long after Making Time RADio with Dave P, you know?). On this week’s full two-hour show, we’ll be joined by a pair of guest DJs: co-creator and star of Comedy Central’s Broad City, Abbi Jacobson, and her dad Alan! The pair chat about their connection to Philly and, in particular, to the Golden Slipper organization. They’ll also play a few of their own favorite songs from Courtney Barnett, Tom Waits and Arcade Fire’s Will Butler. Also on tonight’s show, a spotlight on the newly released album from Steve Gunn. The former Kurt Vile sideman just released Eyes On The Lines, the latest in an evolving string of solo records. And be on the lookout for new tunes from Weaves, Big Thief and Wild Beasts in the mix, too…

Our latest Indie Rock Hit Parade live session features the Los Angeles trio La Sera! La Sera formed as the solo project for bassist/singer Katy Goodman, back when she was performing with another trio, Vivian Girls. Goodman’s since released four albums under the La Sera name, each one showcasing a new set of styles and influences. The newest record, Music For Listening To Music To, was released earlier this year on Polyvinyl. The album is perhaps La Sera’s boldest statement, with its rollicking production supplied by Ryan Adams. Goodman, along with guitarist/singer Todd Wisenbaker (who produced La Sera’s previous album, Hour Of The Dawn) and drummer Brendan McCusker dropped by our studios between shows in New York and Washington, DC.

If ever there was an Indie Rock Hit Parade that was not to be missed, it would be all of them (naturally). But tonight’s show, starting at 10pm on XPN, is particularly exciting. We’ve got a brand new Studio Session with our longtime Jersey pals The Front Bottoms, featuring songs from their newly released EP, Rose.
