Punks meets cabaret tonight at The Trocadero as The World / Inferno Friendship Society takes the stage. The band’s sound is just as huge as its roster, having anywhere from 7 to 13 members playing horns, piano, bass, guitar, drums and more. Their songs are theatrical in nature and it’ll be a treat to see how the band brings them to life in person. For tickets and more info check out the XPN Concert Calendar and listen to the 2014 track “Dolce Far Niente” below. Tonight’s Concert Pick: Laura Gibson at Johnny Brenda’s

Since the release of her last album in 2009, Laura Gibson has been busy, playing over 200 shows and finding time to record a new album. La Grande, which came out earlier this week, isn’t a huge leap from her earlier work: the album is defined by Gibson’s airy voice, which floats above gently strummed acoustic guitar. But the occasional jazzy touch (such as in “Lion/Lamb” and “Milk-Heavy, Pollen-Eyed”) and contributions from members of The Decemberists and Calexico provide a little flourish. Laura Gibson performs with Cotton Jones and The Grand Nationals at 9 p.m. at Johnny Brenda’s; tickets to the 21+ show are $10. —Nicole Soll
