Sisters Lily & Madeleine Jurkiewicz are set to release their sophomore album, Fumes, on October 28th, on Asthmatic Kitty records. The folksy pop duo from Indianapolis released their debut EP in 2013, and was followed by their self-titled debut full length. They also have collaborated with Son Lux on “Lost It To Trying,” one of our favorite songs from last year. Like The Roches and First Aid Kit, Lily & Madeleine have close, rich and beautiful harmonies that anchor the warmth and allure of their songs. Continue reading →

Folkadelphia Session: Lily & Madeleine

It’s certainly easy to stay focused on the musical accomplishments and inherent talent compared to the respective ages of Lily and Madeleine Jurkiewicz, the sisters that make up the duo Lily & Madeleine. The accomplishments are grand – an LP and EP in the bag, a fantastic sophomore album Fumes to be imminently released by Sufjan Steven’s Asthmatic Kitty Records, the talent runs deep and strong in these two, and their ages, well, let’s just say teenaged. Instead of framing it like “look what these girls have accomplished and they’re only BLAH BLAH BLAH years old,” how about we say that Lily and Madeleine have just commenced on their hopefully long and fruitful musical journey. Here’s an indie-folk/singer-songwriter duo you need to listen to: Lily and Madeleine (last name: Jurkiewicz, however, they go by their first names). Described on their Facebook page as “sisters with distinct and ethereal harmonies reminiscent of a bygone era of popular music,” they just released their debut EP The Weight Of The Globe on Asthmatic Kitty Records. The sisters are from Indianapolis and cite Mumford & Sons, Arcade Fire, Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros and Simon & Garfunkel as some of their influences as well as being fans of the head of their label, Sufjan Stevens. Below, download “Back To The River,” and enjoy the magical harmonies of the 16 and 18 year old sisters.
