With acoustic guitar in hand, Lissie walked out on World Cafe Live’s stage earlier today to show Philadelphia a little bit of her midwest roots with a raw folk rock sound.

Alongside electric guitarist Edward Stanton, Lissie kicked off the set with her new song “Hero,” her stripped-down performance showing off a natural vocal talent and intricate lyrics. Tonight’s Concert Pick: Lissie at First Unitarian Church

LissieEven if you’re unfamiliar with Lissie‘s music, you’ve probably seen her name thrown around the Internet: The Illinois-born singer-songwriter was one of 2010’s breakout folk-rock stars; her already rising stock started soaring after her debut album, Catching A Tiger, was released by Columbia last June. (Paste Magazine even crowned her the best solo artist of 2010, just over a month before the struggling online magazine was acquired by Wolfgang’s Vault.) With a little luck, she might even perform a cover of Lady Gaga’s “Bad Romance,” a live version of which appeared on 2010’s Cuckoo EP. Lissie performs with Dylan Leblanc at 8 p.m. at First Unitarian Church; tickets to the all-ages show are $15 (all previously purchased tickets from her October 21st show will be honored).
