The announcement comes just days after the electronic outfit, led by the musical wizardry of Anthony Gonzalez, made an appearance right here in the tri-state area — on Saturday night they rocked Firefly down in Delaware. A day too short, Governors Ball still brought the heat

Festivals and I have such a love/hate relationship. Not only as a music lover and someone who works in the industry, but as a general human being. There’s the hot humidity of the early days of summer mixed with the tangled bodies of hippies and hipsters gallivanting across an open field, overpriced food and alcohol, and crowds so large you can hardly see the band you’re there to see. At the same time, you’re completely enthralled with the good vibes, the exciting atmosphere, and the thrill of so much good music.

Stratospheric Pop: Listen to M83’s “Go!”

If there were any doubt following the colossal success of “Midnight City” that M83 was a Very Big Band, the teasers we’ve been hearing from the new LP Junk lay them to rest. The new “Go!” features a soaring hook from vocalist Mai Lan and an insane guitar solo that kicks in at around the 2:55 mark. It’s shamelessly gaudy, stratospheric pop that will play massively well when M83 appears at the Firefly Festival in Dover, DE this summer. More information on the fest can be found at the XPN Concert Calendar – listen to “Go!” below. Continue reading →

M83, aka Anthony Gonzalez, jus announced the release of his forthcoming full-length album, Junk; it’s due out April 8th on Mute Records. In support of the new 15 song collection, M83 is going on tour this spring and summer, playing the major festivals including Coachella, Governors’ Ball, Bonnaroo, and a stop closer in our area at Firefly Festival in June 16th.

Junk follows M83’s 2011 breakthrough, Hurry Up, We’re Dreaming, that featured the hit single “Midnight City.” Below, listen to the new “Do It, Try It.” It’s got an infectious house under-groove and swirling banks of soaring electronics, and a singing dog. Continue reading →

Listen to Benjamin Francis Leftwich cover M83 and Frightened Rabbit (playing World Cafe Live in December)

Emerging UK songwriter Benjamin Francis Leftwich is playing a round of North American shows this fall before heading back to the studio to record the followup to his 2011 record Last Smoke Before the Snowstorm. The tour brings him to World Cafe Live in Philly on December 13, and to get fans excited, he’s just released a pair of folksy covers that you can hear below. His spare, acoustic stylings are similar enough to Frightened Rabbit, so his version of “Swim Until You Can’t See Land” comes off as a nice offering, if a bit straightforward. But applied to M83’s raging dancefloor number “Midnight City,” however, his vibe turns the song into something else entirely. Listen below, or download the songs for the price of your e-mail address at Leftwich’s website.

Holy LOL: Read one scalper’s angry response to R5 Productions (after having their ticket order canceled)

You know, we were going to add this as an update on our recent post about the M83 show at Union Transfer selling out in seven minutes. Buuut, it’s pretty deserving of its own post. Below, you can read one angry scalper’s response, which was just posted on R5 Production’s Facebook. (Warning for NSFW language + general assholery):

From one of the M83 scalpers : “Ok refund my money then. Your doing a real good job preventing scalpers from buying your tickets considering there are already 160 of them on Stubhub. Why dont you find something better to worry about then the secondary ticket market? How about trying to book some decent shows. I buy millions of dollars worth of tickets all over the country per year. Your lineup is pathetic. You get one good show and think your some big boss man. Well your obviously a fuckin broke dick loser hater. Good job on getting one decent show for your pathetic little production company. Refund my money right away you fuckin piece of shit. Thanks Bitch.”

Thanks for giving us something else to post about on a slow Friday afternoon, you angry dork!
