Tonight, Jeff Zeigler and Mary Lattimore are setting up shop at the Alamo Ritz in Austin to play their live soundtrack of Philippe Garrel’s 1968 avant-garde film, Le Revélatéur. This will be an intimate gig compared to the next of the weekend, when they’ll switch gears to play for hundreds at Austin Psych Fest’s Levitation festival at Carson Creek Ranch.

“In terms of performing at Levitation, as per usual we’re going into our set with little or no real formal preparation as it’s all improvised, so I guess the plan is to have no real plan. We may discuss the overall arc and vibe but beyond that it’ll be fairly loose,” Jeff writes.

May 8th thru the 10th marks the 8th annual festival, which was rebranded this year as “Levitation” to celebrate the first-ever reunion show from the 13th Floor Elevators, who will close out the festival Sunday night. Continue reading →

The Detroit record label Ghostly International and Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim has released Ghostly Swim 2, a collection of ambient electronic music. It’s their second co-release together since the first installment in 2008.

One of the highlights of the 13-song set is “I Only Have Eyes For You” by the Philly duo Mary Lattimore and Jeff Zeigler, the Philly harpist and producer / multi-instrumentalist respectively that have been collaborating on ambient soundscapes for the past couple years. Although this song shares a title with a 1959 classic by The Flamingoes, it does not appear to be a cover – unless it’s an extremely abstract cover. Continue reading →

Locals Mary Lattimore and Jeff Zeigler open for Nico Muhly and Richard Reed Parry at the First Unitarian Church tonight.  The harp / guitar / synth duo released its debut full-length Slant of Light last Tuesday, an LP that was recorded during the city-stopping snowstorm of last winter.  Lattimore and Zeigler have been performing live together for a few years now, but this release expands on the droning, exploratory, freeform pieces they have played in the past to include subtler, more introspective works as well.  Listen to “The White Balloon” below and get information for the show here. “White Balloons,” the first sampling off of Mary Lattimore & Jeff Zeigler‘s debut LP collaboration Slant of Light, will probably turn out to be one of the more contemplative and subtle compositions on the record.  The pairing of Lattimore’s delicate harp playing bouyed by Zeigler’s distant hum of synths transports the listener to the time that the album was recorded – it was during the snowstorms of early 2014 when the city was blanketed in white and quite literally stopped in its tracks.
