Space is The Place for the mythical Sun Ra Arkestra, but tonight so is Parks on Tap. The Twilight Music Festival welcomes the eclectic ensemble for a night of futuristic jazz, funk and soul at the free event. Founded and led by Sun Ra until his death in 1993, the group is now led by multi-instrumentalist Marshall Allen as they carry on the spirit of Ra. Watch The Arkestra’s Tiny Desk sesssion below. Kicking off Parks on Tap’s Twilight Music Festival tonight are local indie heroes, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah. Instead of one long day of tunes, this festival is broken up into weekly installments happening Sundays on MLK Drive. Tonight’s Concert Picks: Taylor McFerrin at Parks On Tap, Dispatch at The Mann Center

This summer’s Parks on Tap’s Twilight Music Festival series kicks off tonight with Taylor McFerrin (son of Bobby McFerrin and a solid musician in his own right), a DJ and multi-instrumentalist with roots in jazz, hip-hop, and electronic sounds. The 21+ shows take place from 7-9 p.m. within the pop up beer garden located on MLK Jr. Drive and are free to attend but require an RSVP on the Festival’s website.
