Post-punk quartet Parquet Courts headline an eclectic line-up at PhilaMOCA tonight. Back in Philadelphia for the third time this year, Parquet Courts continue to tour in support of their debut full-length Light Up Gold, which just got a proper label release through indie label What’s Your Rupture. One of the stand-out bands at March’s SXSW, Sir Sly make their way to Philadelphia tonight for a show at Johnny Brenda’s. With an EP plus a few more tracks released, the band has quickly made it clear that they will operate in the realm of expansive, catchy pop hooks. Local Brazilian band Alo Brasil plays Underground Arts tonight. More than just a performing band, Alo Brasil features an interactive live show influenced by African rhythms like samba, maracatu and more. Though often accompanied by costumed dancers, for their recurring “Underground Sessions” Alo Brasil has a refreshed line-up of musicians. Lentil Fest continues at The Fire tonight, with performances by Kuf Knotz, Nicos Gun, Reef the Lost Cauze, Mike “Slo-Mo’ Brenner, Gedeon Luke and Brady & the Bear. In support of Lentil the french bulldog (born with a cleft pallate), all proceeds will benefit the French Bulldog Rescue Network, Street Tails Animal Rescue and ccakids.org. Parquet Courts will return with a show at PhilaMOCA on 5/4

If you missed Parquet Courts‘ appearance at the Making Time Valentime’s Day Party the last week don’t fret! The indie punk outfit have a announced more dates including a show at PhilaMOCA on Saturday, May 4th with Scott & Charlene’s Wedding, Household and Amanda X. The Brooklyn band self-released their full-length debut Light Up Gold last summer and the effort backed up the incredible amount of buzz around the band so well that it led to a record deal with What’s Your Rupture? and a wide-release last month. XPN welcomes The Spinto Band to Johnny Brenda’s tonight. Boasting a new album in Cool Cocoon and a viral-y popular video in “What I Love,’ the Delaware natives have had a busy few months leading up to this hometown-area show, perhaps best exhibited by their coverage in The New Yorker and on NPR. As the band points out in this interview with The Key, their generally upbeat, happy sounding music often has much deeper, sometimes melancholy lyrics. Over at Kung Fu Necktie, Arctic Splash will open for Creem Circus. The Joey Sweeney-fronted band make soulful rock ‘n’ roll and it’s not hard to mistake Sweeney’s crooning for that of Wilco’s Jeff Tweedy. The local outfit stopped by recently for a holiday-themed Key Studio session, during which they shared a few non winterized tracks as well – check out a great live version of “When You Say My Name” below and download the full session here. Local rock band Cold Roses headline MilkBoy tonight. Though they’re from Philly, Cold Roses sound like they’re straight out of a Texas roadhouse with their old-style country rock / blues combo. The four-piece released their debut EP The Georgia Fugue this month and have been celebrating with a string of hometown dates, including tonight’s with Dressed Like Stolen Cars and The Rivals. Brooklyn blog-favorites Parquet Courts will be at Voyeur for tonight’s Making Time Valentime’s Day party. The indie rockers released their first proper full-length Light Up Gold last summer, an effort that followed up their true debut American Specialties (released exclusively on cassette and passed over by most). Tonight, Parquet Courts come to town with Inc. for Making Time’s Valentime’s Day show with all the Making Time regulars including DJ Dave P and Sammy Slice and special guest DJ The Crystal Ark. Benefiting Ladyfest Philadelphia, there’s a rocking cover band show happening tonight at Cha-Cha’Razzi in South Philly. Featuring tributes to Blondie, The Breeders, B-52s and more, all proceeds will go towards the summer festival that celebrates art, music and culture in Philadelphia. The event will also launch DIYPHL‘s new photozine highlighting a year in local DIY shows and happenings. More information can be found here. Making Time has a “valentime” for you in the shape of a Valentime’s Day weekend show featuring indie-rock’s newest blog rock darlings Parquet Courts and the Los Angeles R&B-tronica band Inc. on Saturday, February 16th at Voyeur. Brooklyn’s Parquet Courts have announced a Winter tour with a stop at Kung Fu Necktie on Thursday, January 10th. The band is out on tour in support of their incredible new album Light Up Gold. Parquet Courts debuted with a cassette only release called American Specialties last year. Fronted by singer and guitarist Andrew Savage, (formerly of Fergus & Geronimo and Teenage Cool Kids) and singer, guitarist and co-lyricist Aaron Brown, the quartet is a must discover for those of you who are fans of Pavement, The Fall, The Minutemen, Guided By Voices and Dire Straits. Check out a mix tape they made here for a closer listen to the band’s assortment of influences, but also be sure to dive into the lean and tense post-post punk of their not to be missed Light Up Gold here.
