What happens when you take heckin good artists, have them cover other heckin good artists, and then donate the heckin good cover profits to worthy organizations? A beauty of a benefit comp. And new foundation, GRLMIC, has done just this through their recent Bandcamp release of GRLMIC Vol. 1.

Sad13‘s Sadie Dupuis opens the compilation with a cover of Carole King’s classic song, “It’s Too Late,” by throwing a glittery-pop, futuristic spin on the classic tune. Where Carole King’s keys and sultry, sweeping vocals take center stage, Sad13’s version emphasizes electro beats, swirls of sparkly synth, and warped guitar solos that perfectly encapsulate Sad13’s sugar-pop garage aesthetic. Celebrate and support badass music ladies at Pussy Claps Back event

Anyone who knows me knows that I am passionate about two things: ice cream and badass women being awesome and making changes in the music world. So when I see events like Pussy Claps Back: Celebrating Philadelphia Femmes in the Arts, I get pretty pumped.

The killer event will take place at Johnny Brenda’s this Thursday, March 16th, with all door sales benefitting Planned Parenthood of Southeastern PA and Girls Rock Philly. Throughout the night, there will be DJ sets featuring Natasha Diggs (of Soul in the Horn,) The Akasha, Baby dot com, and Aura (of Sofistafunk.) Watch Sleater-Kinney cover the CCR classic “Fortunate Son” at the Women’s March on Washington

At the hub of this weekend’s Women’s March in Washington DC, Planned Parenthood hosted an expansive benefit concert, with Sleater-Kinney sharing the headlining bill with The National.

Sleater-Kinney brought something extra special to their set, with Planned Parenthood president Cecile Richards (as well as The National’s Matt Berninger and Dirty Projectors‘ Dave Longstreth) joining them onstage to perform the Vietnam-era staple “Fortunate Son” by Creedence Clearwater Revival.
