At the time, she was positioned – as many artists are, for good or for worse – as a “next big thing.” But there was good reason for it; she balanced the genres of “soul” and “singer-songwriter” with grace and passion. She had the songwriter chops and vocal presence to back it up. Flash forward to 2005 when Jordan independently released The Trouble With Fiction. In 2011 she released her Souvenir EP. She’s written songs for Kelly Clarkson, John Legend, and co-wrote five songs for Alice Smith’s upcoming EP, executive produced by Citizen Cope. Bands in the Backyard‘s month curating PhilaMOCA‘s Tuesday Tune-Out wraps up with a performance from Ex Friends tonight. The local punk act released their eponymous EP this September through Paper + Plastick Records, which you can stream here. The group began as a side project of Plow United bassist (and occasional Key contributor) Joel Tannenbaum, but their raucous lyrics and lively / aggressive sound made waves pretty quickly. Ohio pop songstress Rebecca Jordan is playing a 21+ show at the Tin Angel tonight. The singer-songwriter has penned hits for performers like John Legend and Kelly Clarkson, and was a 2010 NPR Mountain Stage NewSong Finalist following the release of her bubbly 2010 EP Souvenir, which you can stream here.
