It looks as if He Is Legend’s “Dicephalous” (definition: having two heads) now has a second head of its own, in the form of a cover brought to you by Reggie and the Full Effect. It’s a hard rock song from He Is Legend’s 2009 album It Hates You, and it talks about knowing someone’s true nature despite the elaborate facade they use to deceive others: “you’ve got everybody else fooled, but we know who you are.”

Reggie and the Full Effect (aka James Dewees of The Get Up Kids) completely deconstructs the song and transforms it into a sinister piano-driven affair with muffled vocals that echo. Both versions deliver the song’s message but this one does it in a more subtle, creeping-up-over-your-shoulder-but-you-like-it way. Get tickets to Reggie and the Full Effect show at The Barbary on January 16th here and listen to both songs below. Reggie’s new album No Country for Old Musicians is out now via Pure Noise Records.

Reggie and the Full Effect (primarily the work of The Get Up Kids keyboardist James Dewees) is streaming its new album No Country For Old Musicians a week ahead of its November 19th release. Dewees channels alternate personas throughout the album on which he played nearly all of the instruments himself. He will kick off a tour in support of the album next year in Philly at The Barbary. Double Booked: Everyone Everywhere vs. Matt Pryor and James Dewees

It is a problem that has plagued modern society. It has jolted you out of your sleep in worry and cold sweats. It has left you crippled with regret. It can literally ruin your night. It is the dreaded double booking. Two potentially dope concerts, one potentially dope night. Here on Double Booked, we’ll help make your decision easier by breaking down the two shows by category, and deciding which reigns supreme. Let’s do this.

This week we pit young guns Everyone Everywhere and their merry bunch of hooligans, who play at The Barbary tomorrow, against old emo fogies Matt Pryor (of The Get Up Kids and The New Amsterdams) and James Dewees (formerly of The Get Up Kids and Reggie And The Full Effect), who play North Star Bar. Who will reign supreme? Read and find out. Continue reading →
