Philly-based rapper / producer Dewey Decibel released a new track this week featuring fellow local rapper Rone titled “Never Gave A Shit.” The song is smooth and engaging, throwing some oddball synths your way and blending them with Dewey and Rone’s easygoing flow. Holding your attention throughout, the track’s different timbres of voice and synth juxtapose comfortably and bounce around the room, with the MCs spitting their lines with confidence. Check out the new song below.

Philly hip hop artist Rone just released the music video for his track “Stranger,” the first single off of his forthcoming release, Disneyland for Grownups. The music video was shot by Philly photographer/cinematographer Dan King on Nantucket, and features Rone spitting catchy raps while surrounded by summery New England scenery and dressed in the finest prep gear. Although the video might seem a bit incongruous for the eyes and ears at first, it actually really works – partially because Rone raps and sings over a sample of the great breezy track “Lovers Carvings” by UK producer Bibio. Check it out below.

With a laid-back demeanor and an affinity for melody, Philadelphia’s Adam Ferrone – Rone to his fans – drops his debut full length today on local imprint Raw Life Records. The First Story casts a broad net. It goes fast and fierce with a jazz piano and pounding beat on opener “Against The Wall” (label honcho Dice Raw spits a verse on that track), Later, it ropes things in for some introspection and breezy sentimentality on “200 Miles to Philadelphia,” the acoustic-guitar quasi-singer-songwritery number we heard on Raw Life’s compilation The New School Presents: America’s Next. Rone also sings a lot of his own hooks – another unique slant to his sound. You can watch the video for his single “Giving My Love” below, stream the album over at Soundcloud and help Rone celebrate his album’s release this Saturday, June 23, at MilkBoy.
You might know him as a longtime affiliate of The Legendary Roots Crew, but Dice Raw also has a sharp ear for up-and-coming talent in the city. Today, his label Raw Life released The New Sound Presents: America’s Next, a thirteen-track compilation of rising stars in the city’s pop and hip-hop scene. It features the charismatic Young Gliss, who just released the incredible Glimmer EP; Patty Crash, Philly’s answer to the pop-star badassery of Robyn; melodic-minded rapper Rone; the suave, dancefloor-oriented tones of Mike Taylor; and many more. You preview the compilation in the Soundcloud stream below, or buy yourself a copy over at iTunes.
