Tonight’s Concert Picks: Slingshot Dakota at The Barbary, Sallie Ford/Katie Frank at MilkBoy, Mischief Brew at Morgan’s Pier

bio_slingshot_dakotaA duo from Bethlehem, Slingshot Dakota was founded on the vocals of Carly Comando and Tom Patterson. With Comando on the keys and Patterson on the drums, these two artists are able to create emotional and heart-felt indie punk out of a simple set-up. Joined by a handful of artists such as Real Friends and Candy Hearts, Slingshot Dakota will perform at The Barbary tonight, so check out the video of the duo’s Nervous Energies session for “Until The Day I Die.” Information and tickets can be found here.

Just Announced: Sallie Ford & The Sound Outside coming to MilkBoy on 7/17

Retro rockers Sallie Ford & The Sound Outside have announced a summer tour that swings them through MilkBoy on July 17th.  Continuing to travel in support of its latest LP Untamed Beast, the Portland band was recently in town supporting Thao & The Get Down Stay Down and will perform a set at Non-COMM later this week.  The Sound Outside walks the line between bluesy rock and old-school country, with Ford’s vocals having been compared to Ella Fitzgerald and influences ranging from Tom Waits to Cat Power.  Tickets and information for the 21+ show will be available here.  Below, watch a video for “Party Kids.”

Tonight’s Concert Picks: XPN Welcomes Thao & The Get Down Stay Down at Underground Arts, Candice Martello at the First Unitarian Church Side Chapel, Garbage at The Electric Factory

ThaoXPN welcomes Thao & The Get Down Stay Down to Underground Arts tonight.  Touring in support of their third full-length We the Common, the San Francisco group is a socially-aware folk band working under the guise of dance-happy indie pop concoctions.  Tickets and information for tonight’s 21+ show with Sallie Ford & The Sound Outside can be found here.  Below, watch Thao perform the title track to the new LP at a rally in support of the women inside Central California’s Women’s Facility and download the album cut.
