This week’s Key Studio Session featured garage rock trio St. James and the Apostles in fine form, recording four tracks that stir together a mixture of gospel, sixties psych rock and country.  Read an interview with the band by Key contributor Kate Bracaglia here while you stream and download “Gimme Some” below.  The local band has a couple of dates coming up – March 2nd at Underground Arts with Penrose and Levee Drivers and March 9th with Blayer Pointdujour at MilkBoy.  Tickets and information can be found here.  Check out the full session here.

Son Volt announced a show at Union Transfer this week in support of their upcoming record Honky Tonk (out March 9th through Rounder).  Jay Farrar’s band shared a free download from the new album and the song, called “Hearts and Minds,” indicates an acoustic, truly honky-tonk direction for the album.  Tickets and information for their all-ages June 19th show can be found here.  Stream “Hearts and Minds” below and head over to Son Volt’s website to get the download in exchange for your email address.

Folkadelphia brought in two folk-leaning bands to record sessions this week ahead of last night’s Studio 34 show.  Spirit & Dust was in full-band regalia, previewing songs from their brand new Shore to Shore LP while Small Houses took the solo road with songs from his (also brand new) Exactly Where You Wanted To Be effort.  While they approach folk music from different angles, I think you’ll agree with Folkadelphia’s Fred Knittel that the pairing is chill-inducing.  Download “Home” from Spirit & Dust below and go here for the full double session.
