Tis the season of Yacht Rock, and what better way to celebrate than with a Steely Dan tribute show chock full of some of our favorite artists?

Eric Slick and The Talkhouse curated Reelin’ In the Years: a Tribute to Steely Dan as a spin-off of an in-depth piece the Dr. Dog drummer wrote, and they’ve wrangled members of Speedy Ortiz, Laser Background, The So So Glos, and Ava Luna, along with Ian Sweet, Twiga, Bad Faces and Slick’s own Dan-influenced Lithuania to be a part of it.

Tonight’s Concert Picks: Temples at Morgan’s Pier, Kwesi K at Haddon Lake Park, Modern Inventors at the TLA

UK psych pop band Temples will be playing at Morgan’s Pier tonight (and it’s free). The band released its debut album Sun Structures in February. In an interview with the Key’s Nikki Volpicelli, the band tried to explain the spiritual aspect of the band by stating that “Just having a piece of art that’s completely saturated in symbolism and maybe not a direct message there but just the point of… ‘look at this, this is symbolic, isn’t that amazing?’ Not for any particular reason sometimes.” Listen to “Mesmerize” from Sun Structures below. Get more details about the show at the XPN Concert Calendar. Steely Dan added to Musikfest on August 6

Steely Dan have been added to the lineup for this summer’s Musikfest, and are playing the Sands Steel Stage on Wednesday, August 6th. Tickets for the public go on sale Monday, April 18th at 10AM. Steely Dan are the latest headliners to be added to the 31st edition of Musikfest, happening August 1-10th in Bethlehem. The ten day festival will feature more than 500 musical performances on 14 stages throughout the city. Other headliners announced so far include:

August 1: ZZ Top
August 4: Sheryl Crow
August 5: The Moody Blues
August 7: The Avett Brothers

Just Announced: Steely Dan playing The Mann Center on 9/21

Fusion / rock band Steely Dan has announced a 2013 tour that will bring them to The Mann Center on September 21st.  With hits including “Reelin’ In the Years,” “Do It Again,” “Rikki Don’t Lose That Number” and “Dirty Work,” Steely Dan blended jazz with rock, funk, pop and R&B and released nine studio albums throughout their career, most recently 2000’s Grammy Award-winning Two Against Nature and 2003’s Everything Must Go.  Founding members Donald Fagen and Walter Becker have also recorded solo material, with Fagen releasing Sunken Condos last October and finding himself charting midway on Rolling Stone’s Top 50 Albums of 2012 list.  Tickets for the September show go on sale Saturday, April 20th.  More information will be available here.  Below, watch Steely Dan perform “Reelin’ In the Years” on The Midnight Special in 1973, introduced by Bill Cosby.
