Aughties hip-hop supergroup, Jurassic 5, are bringing their old-school vibes to the TLA tonight. Comprised of DJs Numark and Cut Chemist, and MC’s Chali 2na, Zaakir, Akil and Mark 7even, the group was formed at LA’s The Good Life cafe, and was incredibly influential in the West Coast underground scene. Either way, the phenomenal singer-songwriter is taking her talents to the suburbs tonight, headlining the first installment of the “Philly in the Burbs” concert series. Summertime is for outdoor venues, and Tedeschi Trucks Band, Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings and special guest Doyle Bramhall II will take on a slew of al fresco venues for TTB’s Wheels of Soul tour this summer. Local outfit Divers headline Boot & Saddle tonight. The dark-rock four-piece, comprised of Emily Ana Zeitlyn, Ross Bellenoit, Todd Erk and Tom Bendel, is finishing up a new record that was funded by fans through a PledgeMusic campaign. Divers recorded a Key Studio Session in 2013; check out “Eggshells” from the session below and learn more about the new record here, which is set for a release on December 15th. This month’s edition of Communion Club night at Underground Arts gets a seductive R&B makeover tonight with a set from newcomer Johnny Stimson. Flaunting an effortless falsetto range, Stimson’s voice is soulful even as it accompanies more upbeat, dance tracks. Also on tonight’s lineup is folksy singer-songwriter Gretchen Lohse who recently released a dreamy video for “Spider At the Gate”. Dig into tracks from both artists below and get tickets here.
Local favorite Birdie Busch is set to rock Boot and Saddle tonight with her dreamy folk tunes and magnetic appeal. Busch released her album Birdie Busch and the Greatest Night last year and has played tons of shows in the area, establishing her presence in the Philly scene.
