Tonight’s Concert Pick: The Music Tapes at The First Unitarian Church

Neutral Milk Hotel’s Julian Koster brings his latest spectacle to the First Unitarian Church tonight. The bass and singing-saw player has created titled The Music Tapes Present: The Traveling Imaginary, and the project is both a musical performance piece and a mystical escape, like a Bradbury story or Gilliam film. It takes place inside a mystical circus tent created specifically for this tour that’s actually being constructed inside the First Unitarian Church. The Traveling Imaginary tour is in support of The Music Tapes’ latest album Mary’s Voice and continues Koster’s tradition of creating surreal experiences for his audiences. The early show tonight is sold out; tickets are still available for the 10 p.m. show, and more information can be found at the XPN Concert Calendar. Below, watch a trailer for The Music Tapes’ Traveling Imaginary.

Just Announced: The Music Tapes bringing their enchanting Traveling Imaginary to the First Unitarian Church on 02/04

In something right out of a Bradbury story or Gilliam film, former Neutral Milk Hotel bass and singing-saw player Julian Koster is bringing his latest endeavor to the First Unitarian Church basement on February 4th.  Titled The Music Tapes Present: The Traveling Imaginary, Koster’s new project takes place inside a mystical circus tent created specifically for this tour where anything can happen (some things that will happen are songs and stories; some things that might happen are games, movies and magic).

Of the traveling show, Koster says:

If you made a circus tent out of blankets in your room when you were a little kid and then fell asleep, it’s like the dream you would have.

The Traveling Imaginary tour is in support of The Music Tapes’ latest album Mary’s Voice and continues Koster’s tradition of creating surreal experiences for his audiences, the multi-instrumentalist having initially been a member of the Elephant 6 Collective.  Tickets for the event will be available soon; below, watch a trailer for The Music Tapes’ Traveling Imaginary.
